Hi all, My buddy brought these by today. I bought the whole lot for 20 bucks. He needed the cash. Will you please take a look and see if these are worth the money? I see a few interesting types here. But ,every time I buy some coins from Bud. They turn out to be fakes or manipulated coins. Thanks for any feedback... Here's a few pic' centerrorsobv.jpg mint errors obv2.jpg mint errors rev1.jpg mint errors rev2.jpg laminationerrorobv.jpg 1942srevcenterror.jpg edgepicscenterr 1.jpg edgepicscenterr 2.jpg edge3.jpg edgepicscenterr 4.jpg s to check out.

I'm no expert on these but I think the clipped planchets are real, at least some of them. And the lamintation on that 42 S is pretty nice, especially with the condition its in.

I wouldn't have paid $20 but that's just me. Some interesting stuff you have there though :)

There is something called the Blakesly Effect that comes into play with clips. 180 degrees away from the clip there is often some weakness in the features. I think it is ascribed to the die going further down into the clip area and tilting so that 180 degrees away it is a weak strike.

The reverse on the 45 s looks like a clashed die to me? I can see an s and some type of pattern there

Blacksley effect is caused from the upsetting of the rims on the planchet. As it runs through the upsetting mill the diameter across the planchet where the clip is is less than the normal diameter. This means in that area there is no pressure to create the raised rim 180 degrees away from the clip. So when that planchet is struck there is less metal thickness there and the strike is therefor weaker causing a loss of detail.
