    Hi all.

I've thought a bit about ugly coins. Some coins are ugly due to having underwhelming designs, some feature... "aesthetically disadvantaged" individuals, and some just miss the mark in their portrayal of a figure.

I've decided to share a couple of my (least?) favorite bad portraits on coins. There are likely many more I have neglected to add.

Please feel free to add your picks in the comments.

However, I must ask that you don't 'like' the posts unless you agree that the portrait is ugly!!
This means we can have a simple vote on the ugliest portraits on coinage!
(I would have made a poll, but I wanted the other members to add insight on their picks as well :) )

Marshall Islands, $5 featuring Princess Diana
I wasn't alive before she passed, so I have no real idea about her besides that she was well-loved. Although the intentions of this piece are admirable, the result is sad!

    Special Olympics Commemorative - 1995 - USA $1
Although there are things that can be said about having a living person depicted on US coinage, we can all agree that Eunice Kennedy Shriver did a great service to our mentally and physically disabled citizens.

However, why not use a more flattering, younger image of her that more resembles her at the time the Special Olympics were founded in 1968?

2002 Cuban Peso featuring Mao Tse-tung
You can likely tell why they would feature a Chinese leader on a Cuban coin. However, this depiction of Mao probably would have been censored if issued in China! Check out those jowls!

First one she doesn't have any teeth!!second, you sure that's not Ben Franklin?and the last one looks like a decent similarity to Churchill.

Not mine, but despite its accuracy, I doubt you could find much worse.

That's a beautiful mideval piece!!the portrait actually isn't that bad related to the period it was minted.

It is relatively accurate, but I'd go as far as to say that it takes some.... "artistic liberties" to show the King in a good light :)

I agree. He looks very womanly.

    It's George's ugly side.

I met Eunice Kennedy Shriver some years ago and it's an accurate portrait of her.

Now Princess Di is another story. Looks slightly demonic to me.

Supposedly the British people voted the Churchill Crown the ugliest British coin ever produced.

Not just portraits, but devices that were supposed to represent a place.
