Found this in a box tonight. It's a pretty big MAD cent (at least it's the biggest I have found! ). Figured I'd post it in the error section since not everyone looks at the CRH thread. Thanks for looking
Very nice, that is quite a misalignment. Did you notice the reverse is also misaligned but in a different direction? A lot of people think only the hammer die can be misaligned but they both can be. It's just that the anvil die, being restrained within the collar, can only have a very small misalignment.
I noticed the slight misalignment on the reverse but figured it had something to do with the obverse being so off. I don't know much about these errors though. You can see that "AMERICA" is softer due to the MAD on the obverse.
Nice find! Decent MADs, i.e. ones you can see without a magnifying glass, are underappreciated in my opinion.
Yeah I have a couple that go the other way, not as much as this one, and they aren't as cool since really nothing is missing. I like that most of the motto is missing on this one.
I bought a roll of uncirculated 1974 Lincoln Memorial cents and just about the whole roll are mis- strikes. There are also many other errors in this roll , I couldn't believe it.
Thanks for reminding me.. I forget that 1974's have a Memorial Reverse Post some pictures of the errors you say you have in your own unique thread!
