Bought this 1935 Washington Quarter for $20.00 Was graded MS64 in a PCI holder. Now it's an MS65 in an ANACS. I hear the ringing in my ear of all who have mentored me: "Buy the coin, not the slab."
Purchased well below market from Chris McCawley at a Baltimore show (you want honesty in dealing? Patronize an EAC'er), in NGC MS63. Cracked to hone my imaging skills with copper, resubmitted and came back NGC MS62. Still covered the cost of slabbing and made money on the flip. What I learned about imaging from it paid off.
My first "crossover": ICG XF40 -> NGC XF40 NGC don't accept ICG coins, but they don't mind customers sending slabbed coins for a regrade. Great thread, Andrew.
My first "true" PCGS to NGC crossover. I guess this one should be cracked out and submitted raw to correct the label - it should say AU53 ;-) I recently submitted a couple of ANACS/ICG coins to NGC. As soon as they're graded, I'll post the results here. Stay tuned!
No secret to it, just decent equipment and good technique. I shot this a couple days ago, with a camera that cost me $85 and a (expensive for me) lens that cost $60: I'll teach anyone who wants to learn. But you have to want to learn; there's nothing "automatic" about it.
