here are some insect coins I have had for awhile and maybe never posted them. yes I know some of you frown upon colorized coins. I thought I did too, but the coins might also have the coin stamped with part of the insects with it. they were relatively cheap too. some photos are poorly out of focus...sorry...

Turkey has seen a lot of diverse coinage since the 1900s. Mostly milled until converting to a decimal system in the early 40s. They also experienced hyper inflation in the early 1980s and into the 1990s with coinage with denominations in the millions of Lira. This set from 1965 shows the basic lower valued denominations. I found it interesting that the values of the 1 and 2 1/2 Lira alone exceed the cost of the entire set. I also noticed that Krause list the 1961 2 1/2 Lira with a mintage of 1,222,000 at a value of $150 while the 1965 with a mintage of 1,246,000 is only listed at $10 while higher mintage coins are worth even more. I suspect the fact that the other years didn't produce mint sets may have made the uncirculated coins harder to find. Photos are a little bland since I had to shoot through milky mint plastic. 1965 Turkey Mint Set. Mintage NA
I've been addicted to these 5 francs lately. They're just so big and nice. I'm having a few coins arrive soon that I'm excited about.
