Million Dollar Coin

    Well not really, but there is something odd about the blob of metal between the R and Franklin's coat. Someone want to explain what causes this on the 1958-D Franklin half ? Do people pay a premium for this oddity ?

    It's a die chip. Some are found in cool places on coins but they don't add to the value much if any and in some cases may lower the desirability which may lower the value. There are a few cases where the are desirable. The 1955 knob on ear large cent comes to mind.

    Just to set things straight, it's the 1855 large cent, not 1955.

    With or without die chips, Franklins are under-rated. We need Ben on a coin again.

    I only have one Ben in my collection but I think it's a simply designed, sharp coin.
