Why is this cent selling for so much more than those graded similar?

    Older holder mania?

Aside from the one grade higher than I was researching, the old holder might have something to do with it also. Bidders probably feel the already rare high grade might actually be higher. Word is they used to grade more conservatively back in the day.

So yea, if it gets regraded and gets MS67RD then the sale price is not only justified but probably a bargain.

Interestingly the seller states in description that the coin has since turned darker since it was graded. They state it would most probably grade RB now. So now I'm back to square one... what the hell is up with these bidders???

You know the old saying - "buy the holder not the coin". :) - Riddle solved. Looks to me like it would be called brown from the pictures.

Yup lol. Looks to me like registry bidders... "Lets buy the coin that is inferior to the grade on label and will probably never get my money back when I sell but hey I move up 3 spots in the registry! Yippee!"

Of course if the coin turns out to be some rare die variety or something then all bets are off and the buyer is the winner.
