Red Huns / Small Kushan Kidarite Kingdom AR Drachm 29 mm x 4.11 grams Kabul, Afghanistan mint (s.360 AD) Obverse: 3 /4 Bust of king facing slightly right, wearing crown with streamers, KIDARA KU-SANASA in Brahmi above Reverse: Fire altar flanked by attendants, SULAKHA in Brahmi below. 29mm, Ref:. Göbl, Hunnen Em. 11 Note: Rare and Superb. This coin gave a ton of trouble to photograph the first time but now...it still wasnt that much easier but the photo game out pretty good. and this...one of my fav coins and my first Kushan Type Dinar. Kushan Empire - Kidarite Huns Bactrian Region Gadahara-Peroz (AD 360-380) AV Dinar 19.5 mm x 7.79 grams Obverse: Formalized Kushan-style king sacrificing left; below arm, Brahmi legendGadahara at right, Piroz under arm; in left field, Kushana Reverse: Realistic goddess Ardoksho (Tyche) enthroned facing, holding garland (diadem) and cornucopiae; in right field, Brahmi letter Sha; in left field, Tamgha. Ref: Gobl 608 Its funny...the Sassanian style coin mentions "Kushan" yet the Kushan style coin mentions a king with an Iranian name. "Peroz"
Those facing bust ones are the worst. Almost never much detail on the face due to it being the highest point on the coin, and silver being shiny washes out most attempts to photograph them. Mine looks like yours in hand, but the sellers photograph made it look like the face was blank.
We had a thread like this before, full of fantastic Kidarites and Sassanians. Here's my pride (my preciousss!), a scyphate large Kidarite dinar, 5th century. 34 mm, only 7,7 gr.
