Ya'll know I like Indian coins, so this and two of its little buddies found its way into my collection. This is an extremely rare large copper issue struck in the name of the Satavahana king Sri Satakarni, dated approximently BC 100. India, Andhara Vidharba Region Satavahana Dynasty (Andharas) Sri Satakarni (c. BC 100) AE Karshapana 24 mm x 4.59 grams Obverse: Nandipana - Brahmi legend "Satakarni" Reverse: Railed Tree
Sweet new coin, Noob ... the obverse image looks a bit like an ancient baby pacifier, eh? (neat addition)
Cool coin A-Noob!!! I'll always love your 'specialized' passion....Hmmm Why do Oki and big V come to mind.
yet another neat eastern ancient! i probably should know what (or who?) a nadipana is ...but i don't. what is it?
I was going to ask that, too. When I think of Nanipanda symbol, I think of the one on the reverse right of this Yaudheya. Clarifications appreciated.
@dougsmit you are correct that is also Nandipada (Nandipana.) Through out the various regions the symbol is also used interchangeably with the more traditional "Taurine" symbol.
