I have two types, both a bit worn.....Hmmm, I seem to be missing the reverse of the bust of him with Vesta.... I guess I deleted it and never had an intended reshoot but the sestertius is complete: Caligula sestertius.jpg 002.png

The silver are VERY rare since they were taken out of circulation and remelted after his assassination. The silver can be really SCARY looking!

Caligula's sestertii have two of my all-time favorite reverses on any Roman coin: (1) his "three sisters" reverse (Agrippina Jr., Drusilla, and Julia Livilla), and (2) his "Ad Locutio" reverse with Caligula addressing (haranguing?) the troops.

I have only the second one:

    4b - Caligula AE sestertius - dual BB.jpg

    GAIUS (CALIGULA) 37 - 41 A.D.
    AE Sestertius (28.01 g.) Rome c. 37 - 38 A.D. RIC 32
C CAESAR AVG GERMANICVS PON M TR POT Laureate head l. Rev. ADLOCVT Gaius, bare headed and togate, standing l. on platform, r. hand extended to five soldiers with shields and parazonia, rearmost pair carrying an aquila; in exergue, COH. Ex. Luc Girard

As much as I like all my Caligulas, including my avatar coin, this is certainly my favorite Caligula.

I imagine Caligula, in perfect Latin, exhorting his troops to "Win one for the Emperor!"

Brilliant coin IoM. I had a lead on a "3 sisters" coin a few months ago, but I took a day to decide if I really wanted it. You guessed it, it was gone. They do not stick around once you find them. I only collect silver but I was willing to change my mind for the "3 sisters".

I guess my favorite is the DIVO AVG sestertius but Mikey beat me to it so I'll sho the quadrans with RCC honoring Caligula's Remission of the 1/200 (CC) tax.

Another opportunity to show one of my very favorite coins...Caligula and his 3 sisters....thanks @AngelDeath!
Please note that the name of Caligula in the obverse legend was effaced in antiquity, a "damnatio memoriae" of Caligula, after his assassination.
