I recently purchased this R.R. Denarius L. PAPIUS 79 B.C. Obv:Head of Juno Sospita right wearing goat-skin, jug behind. Rev: L.PAPI, Griffin springing right, grain ear below. Silver, Serrate Denarius 19mm 3.41gm. Crawford 384/1;Syd. 773 The question is, can I see a 'countermark' or a 'bankers mark' behind Sospita's head, and above the 'jug'?
I like those grifin reverses. Despite its wear this one is pretty majestic. I seem to see a banker's mark before Sospita's forehead, not sure about what to see behind Q
I did say "above the 'jug'" If you look (on the obverse) 'carefully' behind Sospita's head and ABOVE the jug, you will see a 'mark'. Banker's Mark?
Hey TC are you starting to specialize in Roman Republican Coinage? You have posted some really nice examples lately.
This is another I was watching on Ebay, but I did not bid on it. I had too many I was watching that day. Congratulations. BTW, I won't let you have them all. In fact, I got three yesterday that I will post once they arrive and I can image them.
