I don't have any new acquisitions to show but I will warn you now, this post may be a bit long, and mods if it needs to be moved, I understand. This is what happened at work tonight. Perhaps I should put it in that thread, but I thought I would put it here because it involves a Heritage Collection. Maybe it's no big deal, maybe some of you know about this collection, because I have no idea how big this man's personal collection is, but if NGC is putting your name on almost everything you own, then I have to wonder.

I met a guy who is an BIG coin collector. He's a Horse Jockey, owns a horse and has him racing this Friday at Pimlico. He showed me photos of his horse on his phone numerous occasions. His Horses' name is Senor' Star. His first name is Ron, and when he told me his last name it was so loud I couldn't hear. But either way, tonight at work, he came in and showed me two AG 3' Seated Liberty's. One was a quarter and one was a half dollar. Both 1858. Though the Half was an 1858 O. He threw them on the table and said, "you had some ms barber dimes? I have lot's of stuff man, what are you looking for? Look at this." He produced several sheets of paper stapled together and he proceeded to show me his last auction results from Heritage. Then he told me that NGC put his name on some of this collection. I asked him if he ever heard of Coin Talk and he told me he did but he didn't have time to browse the net on collector sites, though he would LOVE to check it out. So he took down the site address. I don't know when he's selling again through Heritage, but it was nice that he offered to sell me some pieces from his collection. Such a friendly guy. I asked him what exactly he was trying to do with his collection. Sell it? Trade? He told me both and again asked about my Barber dimes, lol. That was about it. I am still a bit unclear on if he wants to sell direct to buyer and bypass Heritage and sell privately. He told me he may be in Monday night and back Thursday and I offered to take him with me to see Julian Liedman in Silver Spring Wednesday. I have no idea if he will go or not. Any suggestions? What would you do?

Okay, so I DID find a new coin. My first IHC.

Purchased a couple weeks ago... I usually go for more toning but for some reason, liked the look of this one too.

I don't know why but ancients don't tickle me in the least. I see them on the same level of tokens or something, wonder why. Nice coins though :)

Thats surprising considering they're thousands of years old, each die was hand engraved and struck so no 2 are alike like machine made *stupid minute die differences ala VAMS shouldn't count, thats just $ grabs* and think of the history that the coins are a part of.

But to each their own. I enjoy moderns, mainly world, just as much as ancients. I just don't have a huge love for U.S. like I did. But I love early u.s. coppers, busts and seateds.

I know. I should like them or at least be able to appriciate them on more than a generically aesthetic level. Maybe it's a disconnect similar to more modern world coins. It's like a world I was never part of that I can't relate to I guess. Morgans scream "we built the US, we were there when the US was a teenager not knowing what the future would bring" etc, etc. I can't even really relate to pre 1878 that much for some reason and that flies smack in the face of the founding of our nation. Strange, but to each their own I guess

That is true. And I enjoyed Morgans growing up, but like Lincolns, too many of them so I got bored of them when I got back into collecting in 2008.

Update: BEWARE!!! I just received my AWS Coin Scale today and decided to check the 1915 Austrian 100 Corona Gold Coin that a friend gave me a couple of days ago. This friend was a lawyer and his client had been taken in by these mid-east scammers and he had a couple of those coins and gave me one.

Thanks to the accuracy of my new AWS Coin Scale, I validated information of the real 100 Corona Coin. It should contain .9803 troy oz. of gold and weigh in at 33.88 grams. This fake 100 Corona Coin probably has a fine coating of gold for it looks realistic enough; but it only weighs in at 22.7 grams or 6.18 grams underweight.

This fake 1915 100-Corona Coin was foisted upon the American coin market by some middle-east bad guys back in the 80’s from what I was told. Read this article and be on the alert should you ever have an opportunity to buy one of these coins...and if you already have one, you may want to check it out.

    http://coinsite.com/whats-the-value-of-a-1915-austria-100-corona-gold-coin/

The article further added that the Beirut Mint has a state-of-the-art Milling Facility and “was famous for fakes of British Sovereigns, French and Swiss 20 Francs, the entire Corona series and United States gold coins as well as a great deal of other coins”.

Sort of new. The Hawaii Dime is mine. The gold coins belong to a friend of mine. He found them in his mother's things and he knew nothing about them as she never mentioned to him she had any coins. Out of the small batch these were the best three. He came over to ask me what he could sell the collection for. Other than the gold coins, he had about 250.00 in circulated silver coinage. NOT face value, silver value. Some Morgans, WL's, Silver Rosie's, and some silver Washies. I showed him coinflation and started him on the Numismatic Path. He had fun and learned something new about his mom he never knew.
