Is this coin fake?

As stated already, and obvious with the title, he didn't state it was a fake. He simply asked for input from us if it is. The pics aren't very clear and there's definitely pmd or other things going on with the coin. So as books kindly asked, if he posted my ebay listing, would I care? No, not if he addressed it exactly the same way, ie asking if it is a fake. He doesn't presume to know, he's just being skeptical. Where's the harm in that? Anyways, I believe Books' posts were simply ignored as they should have been. The OP was in the right and got some input that he was looking for, no harm done, and no argument with the self righteous

Agreed that we can all leave the pitch forks at home, the OP was just asking a question not dragging anyone's name through the mud.

I've seen coins like this before, common coins. It's caused from corrosion. Not only the Date but the Legend is also thinner. Too many people are too quick to judge it as a fake without studying or knowledge.

 

You gain knowledge by study and asking questions.

 

As a buyer, a post like that would make me look at the item and decide for myself. A really defensive seller would make me stay away, though. The seller's response is a lot more telling than the question asked, IMO.
If there are no doubts as to the authenticity of the coin, the coin will defend itself under scrutiny.

 

If anything it just ends up turning into free advertising for the seller when the coin turns out to be real

The seller knocks out any interest I might have -- even after studying the coin -- no buyer feedback, no other items listed, lousy pictures.

 

I don't know the first thing about these. How can you tell? The obverse looks off, cleaned maybe? Pics aren't that good either. I see she only has 15 stars, so that's worrisome

Yeah, my gut feeling wasn't good right away. I wonder if the reserve will be met

 

I am not expert in telling fake or what, but this coin is really pitted. I wouldn't buy it if it was me and since it isn't a rare date you can get another same coin in a better shape.
