Just came yesterday.... AV Tremissis 1.48g./22mm circa 620-700AD Struck by Lombard rulers of Tuscany in name of Heraclius Pseudo-Imperial issue (UNIQUE)
Cool coin and love the history..... Hmm,you seem to be 'cornering the market' with coins of the 'barbarians' !! Maybe next year I'll head in that direction a bit....
Another one, c'mon Panzerman give us some variety! Anyways, that's a great barbarian goldy right there.
Where did the "unique" attribution come from? I have seen a few of these at least over the years at auction.
Very interesting coin, panzeman. Especially the flan with the curve annular borders. A lots of Byzantine golds of Ravenna and Sicily have the exactly same trait. – The Lombards tried to restore the roman institutes as best as they could and it doesn’t surprise me that they imitated the Romans. Here my Heraclius minted in Constantinople: The first one bust face and well elaborated styles, the second one profile one and not quite professional engraved: Solidus, 4,42gram and 22mm, Sear 738: Semissis 2,11gram and 19mm, Sear 784:
Just got home from work, man it was hot, humid and really awfull to be outside (32 cel./39 humidex) Thanks for all your nice comments, this coin came from Ars Classica Auction/ they described it as "unique" I have three AV coins from Lombards, all in last two years. I still have no examples of Burgundian/Seuvi AV coinage....but I am working on it!
Congrats on that very cool golden OP-addition (hey dude, don't forget to feed the family!!) Sadly, it was merely +2 Celsius this morning ... but I rode my mountain bike to work (cha-ching!! => 1/4 pound down => 30 more to go!!)
Oh please where I'm from that's considered a nice cool day. Don't be such a Pansyman! No I lied that kind of heat still sucks wherever you are, and even after years of being in it and having that heat last almost all year long.
Ah, Southern Heat and Humidity! Kinda like a Royal Flush beating out a Canadian Pair that lasts for a day or two...
