Yea, according to Wayne Miller (in his Silver Dollar book) the '21S is THE ugliest/weakest date/MM in the whole series bar none. A well struck coin showing all breast feathers and wreath leaves is worth a premium. .......
    I don't recall ever seeing a sharp struck '21 S, that's partly why an MS65 is a 4 figure coin

Unless the luster is off or your photos are hiding something, that Jefferson Nickel is undergraded.

The only quibble I have with the Jefferson, is the contact mark near the date and the spot in the hair. The lustre is a bit muted due to the golden patina it sports (which I like) I'm not really sure what the lustre on a '38D is supposed to look like though. I'm really starting to like this series...

How did I miss that morgan being in an anacs hotel soap slab!? I would've gone au63 in that case so I still consider it a win :)

That explains it, PCGS will not grade a Jefferson premium gem (MS66 or better) without the coin having at least above average luster. Many of the 38-Ds have golden toning, good strikes, and excellent surfaces. Here is a photo of the last one I sold.

I stole the term tiny Anacs from a post of yours not long ago. Old white Anacs is what I would normally call these, but the earlier (1990?) Anacs w low serial #s are smaller for some reason, even if there's a Morgan inside the slab. For instance, the serial on this was 127,435 .. I have another tiny Anacs that was something like # 56,732... Seem to be solid for the grade in these particular slabs, and yes, I pay too much attention to the slabs and there serial #s nowadays

I callem.tiny anacs slabs or anacs hotel soap slabs. I came up with the hotel soap one but it fits and it's catchy plus it plays on the NGC soap slab. I'm sure I got tiny anacs slab from someone but it's not like that hasn't been around for a while lol.

The smallest ones are the 1st gen ANA anacs slabs. If you stack an ANA 1st gen on top of a regular tiny anacs slab the ANA one will fit inside the tiny anacs boarder. I like the 1st gens the best :)
