Hi. I have a question about few tetradrachms.. what you think are fake or not. this 4 coins. i connect photos for comparison. and others
Part of me thinks they're OK. But this area of Tets I am not a fan of so I am as the images show, corrosion in places. I am not 100%.
I think the first three are fine, but the last one looks like a fake Antinos. Edit: Based upon the duel bust reverse, I am not suspicious of all of them. I still am pretty sure the Antinos is bad though.
I can't even tell which sides go together. @okejos, it is far better to crop and join the obverse and reverse for each coin, and post the results as full in-message images rather than as thumbnails we have access via multiple clicks. If you don't have the time, desire, or knowledge to do this basic photo editing, an alternative is to post the obverse and reverse together, one per message.
Yes, but you didn't show all of the coins. In your original post, the first picture shows the reverse of four individual coins, each with jugate busts of Nilus and Euthenia facing right, regnal year 2 (of Claudius II, I presume). Where are the obverses of the other three? I see no reason to doubt the authenticity of any of the five coins shown in your post #10 of this thread except for the fourth one, although I think it is probably authentic but with a somewhat different style of Isis. Edited: whoops, the fifth coin's reverse is Selene The second and third coins appear to have active bronze disease. These Roman Egyptian potin tetradrachms are very susceptible to that and will disintegrate very quickly if untreated. I've had a few that were lost despite my best efforts at treatment. The fourth coin has some verdigris which could become bronze disease. As a matter of routine, I treat all of my Roman Egyptian tetradrachms with a distilled water soak, dry, and application of Verdi-Care.
The style and appearance are right for these, and there are many on the market right now. The odd appearance may be the bad photo.
