taco tuesday GTG

It's taco Tuesday, for some of us. What does that hafta do with a Morgan ? You can buy one, with a silver dollar !!

What is going on with the cheek? The fields look nice enough for an MS-65, but if those are marks on the cheek, then MS-64 is the best I can see.

 

Looks great minus the cheek area. I'll go MS 64.

 

64+ all day long. The abrasions smack dab in the focal areas and that one under the eye is almost a gouge plus the weak strike Philly style limit it to sub 65

MS-63, too much damage for me to make a 64. Beautiful background.

 

"Gougey" on lower cheek on obverse and over "God" on reverse, but otherwise really nice fields on both...64 if you caught the graders on a good day.

 

64 at best in my opinion.

 

I think the check has marks are on the slab .. and if that is, a MS64 would be inline.

I'm in at 64. The cheek gouge is too prominent (although it could be a lamination and we're being tested ) even though it's the only argument the coin has against MS66. If PCGS called it 65 I wouldn't ridicule them as much as I usually like to.

Spend a bit more time with 1887-P's - they seem particularly prone to it - and you'll learn the white stuff on the lower cheek is as-struck. Not part of my grading opinion.

That is correct @SuperDave , I have looked at a ton of '87Ps (for the biggie vams).... Over 50% seem to have that same cheek issue. (Die wear? Dies spaced too far apart??) I cant remember why this date & MM is plagued by this....

And it had the speckling too.

I've never seen that on a Morgan before...
Sorta remind me of a Peace dollar...
