I wouldn't be caught dead posting over there. I'm not needed, anyway - they all already know everything.

PCGS has been more conservative as of late. So I'll guess they'll say MS65+

Wait 4 months and send it in and you'll get a 66 or better.

    Ooh! A contest! I'll play.

It may look like a 66 or so to you unwashed masses, but it should be obvious that this is a problem coin even if you use a scorched cedar plank used to grill a fish for a loupe. Dead giveaway is the uneven color of the rim on both sides, clearly demonstrating this is a sandwich coin. Two 83-CC VAM 5A, one with an above average obverse, one with an above average reverse, planed down and amateurishly joined together in a sadly successful attempt to fool the buyer and everyone here (why am I not surprised).

    :)

Seriously, damn nice coin. The plaid pattern in the left obverse field by the mouse gave me pause, but I'll assume that it's nothing damning and say you'll be pleased with the grade. The cheek needs to be a little "creamier" for 66, perhaps.

The results are in. It hit me like a sucker punch to the stomach. It came back Genuine UNC Details Cleaned.... I so disagree with that!! I'm just in shock right now. There are 0 hairlines and it has strong luster. I see no evidence of cleaning. Anyone want to chime as to why they might have thought what they thought?

Typical pcgs bs. Send it back in in a regular submission like its a 65 with some other coins and see what they say

Submit it again. They work from a position of fear sometimes, afraid that it's "too good to be true."

Try submitting it to NGC. Yeah - more grading fees, but if it stills comes back in a details slab - maybe it is. From the pictures it does not look like it and it does look like a nice coin.

That's my next step. As soon as I get it back, I'll crack it out and send it to NGC with a few other coins under a regular submission.

PCGS has been tough recently, but not this tough.

This is worse than @Mainebill's submission. The thread's called "seriously pcgs"

Ouch. I'd have to see it in hand to be able to properly react to their assessment. Darkish room, single, point-source light.

In 2018 PCGS is going to start grading Silver Eagles that came directly from the mint tube two weeks earlier "environmental damage".

In 2020 coins like this will be graded "questionable color".

I looked at it in a darkened room with a 600 Lumens LED light from Ikea on a swivel desk lamp about 18" above the desktop. I know it's not an incandescent but's it's remarkably close. It compares to a GE Reveal light before they went to halogen.

This is not the first time I've heard PCGS declare something cleaned then the next time around give it a straight grade.

I thought it would go 66 easily. Certainly nothing in your photos that would suggest a cleaning, and if no hairlines when examined with an LED light, well, if "no grade does not fit, you must resubmit!"

Messy, I had a thought early on that the patch coming out of her mouth could be a wheel mark instead of a continuation of the die polishing from the forehead area. Wonder if they thought that too.

Justin, awe man that must've sucked when you saw it. I agree with trying ngc and bills idea of sending it with others might be a good idea. It's like when a hot chick takes the less attractive friend with her to the club idea.
