IMO, your coin will go into any TPGS holder with no problem and once slabbed it will not come off. PS You do not want to have that sliver come off. It leaves a long unattractive furrow in the surface and much of the time is nasty and dark under the sliver where the surface either has oxidized or has the impurities that caused it to laminate.
Insider, they generally won't slab large peeled but retained laminations as it can pop off in the holder and damage the coin. Simple as that. And if it does pop off and he gets both into a a double or two single slabs the price soars so I must disagree with your entire post
Hey Chris, here are a couple more pics of the OBV and RV with the scribbles and cracks. I'm a member of PCGS, I think it's worth giving them a ping and asking. Thanks, I wasn't aware of the DBL Slab thingy.
Thanks for the education! That's why I let members know there are other options besides NGC and PCGS!
They are good for some things. They are running a special right now...free shipping & $7.50 a coin. That's unfortunate as it indicates what I hear on the grapevine is true.
PCGS in particular is leery of slabbing laminations which might then peel and disfigure the coin - I sincerely doubt they'd slab this one. Those two lines following the bottom of the leg feathers are prominent; they ought to be enough to attribute if the scribbles are depicted cleanly enough at VAMworld. I didn't see them. But I'm not beaten yet.
Thanks Dave! I'm still working it as well. in between mowing my lawn. You probably can't tell by my pics, but there is some letter transfer "M" and whatnot above GOD and a little bit of a mark above the W in we. It looks similar to 3B3 without the die scratches in the wing....also where the clash I n is suppose to be near the neck has the strike thru and lam issue so I can't see it.
Insider, I'm actually sending a batch into ANACS today. Great deal they have going on this month. I've got 20 Morgans and Peace $ VAM's going in....I use ANACS for all my coins that need attributed. John Roberts is awesome and I trust them to get it right.....hee hee, I sound like add....
The only detail I found of any relevant interest was in VAM-61, which resembles the obverse break pattern at U-S on yours. Insufficient detail otherwise, and I found no scribbles which were a likely candidate.
I'll have a look at 61, I swear I've been thru every VAM# on the Vworld site. Maybe I'll suck down a couple 3 or 4+ New Castle Browns to see things a little clearer...hahaha. Again thanks everyone for your input....
I believe it IS a VAM 61A. Dave, check the 61A and then read the thread from Tekkie. Mine has the crack from above the D in dollar, going up to the leaves and then back down to the rim. Let me know what you think.
IMO, any service that would not slab that coin should be run out of business. Once in a slab it is not coming off. Slabbed or not, it is not coming off w/o some help or careless handling while putting it in a flip! Send it to ICG and be done with itbut let SD find the VAM first .
I did all that before even posting my thought above. That's an uncommon but not solitary location for a 1921 die crack, and I found the evidence insufficient to be conclusive. Pics of an attributed 61 are necessary.
Dave I agree, should I just go ahead and send it to ANACS and just tell them to attribute? Or should I post the pics out on the Vamworld message brd and see what the gang says?
The scribbles are a match for the VAM 61 in the scribbles guide. The clash from the wing up to the 'n' in "In" shows there's probably an 'n' clash on the obverse. I would attribute this as either VAM 61 or 61A, depending on the clash.
