I'm really sorry about not having pics but I don't have the capability yet to show what I'm asking about. I'm wondering if any cent searchers have found, on the reverse left side of the shield, three distinct marks that look like possible die gouges. If anyone has, and can post a pic for me and then possibly give me some idea of what this anomaly might be, I would be very grateful. I have found dozens of these, so they are common, but it's not about value but some definitive answer. Thanks so much. Tom
They are raised. They are all evenly spaced also. Nothing I see indicates any kind of clash either. This will take some time to flesh out.
Can I cut a paste your text/question into that forum? Those guys over there might know. Or if you don't have an account, you could start one. http://www.lincolncentforum.com/forum/search.php?searchid=158028
Most certainly and thank you for any help as I'm quite stumped at the moment. No, I've never been to Lincoln Cent forum. I'm usually pretty good with Lincolns for the most part but never an expert by any means.
most likely either this http://www.error-ref.com/?s=die+scrapes or this http://www.error-ref.com/?s=die+gouges
Okay, no problem. I'll post your text into their error thread and probably this CT link. There are a few guys over there that are also members of CT. We'll see what shakes out. I'll let you know what they say or post their responses. If you find your answer in the meantime, let me know.
Definitley some similarities in the formation to the ones in the picks of the cent but much smaller, probably only about 1/16" extending into the left field. Thank you very much for that link.
Thank TJ. Kens link looks promising and maybe a much smaller version of this is what I might have but do have a go of it for the 2015P. Again, sorry for not being able to post decent photos, but you guys are always awesome about your help.
First responses from Lincoln Cent Forum. From WillBrooks: I wonder specifically where on the shield they are. I can tell you this: die chips and cracks and VERY common on the top of the shield. We won't be able to tell if they are chips or gouges without a picture, but even if they are gouges, it probably wouldn't be anything too special, unless they are very pronounced. From Maineman750: Feeder finger scrapes is a possibility as well. From WillBrooks: Why don't you just post the link to here in the other thread or invite him to join us here? Tommy, I think you "may" have to join before you can see this, not sure. http://www.lincolncentforum.com/for...other-forum-one-a-Lincoln&p=292821#post292821
You're up Tommy.......they want you on the other 'board', but you better take some pics with you........
This photo is not going to be of much help I think but I have outlined the marks and with arrows. I don't have the full version of paint so I can't crop the area or change the lighting. I'll probably catch the wrath of some for even trying it this way. Maybe someone can toy with this to see better?
Hmmm, I see what you mean Tommy. When I chick on your above picture it enlarges but not enough where I can add any value. I was hoping you would get more feedback from the guys over on LCF. It's a Friday night, many others will chime in later. Sorry.
Response from Jfines69 on LCF: I believe they are die abrasions... I have seen quite a few with abrasions in that area and similar (best I could tell with the pic that was posted) to the ones on OPs coin... They also appear off the NE of the shield!!!
That water spot does not help either. But I think I like kens link to the feeder finger marks as I have seen them before, just more extreme. Thanks for all your help my friend.
Tommy, this link could be very helpful. From jfines69 on LCF: Here is the link http://www.lincolncentforum.com/foru...us-a-minor-DDR You can use the pics if need be!!!
Thanks TJ, I just joined the site so thanks for inspiring me. Now, I'll check that link more closely.
