Thanks Chris, I've found a few, I was just hoping to get some insight. I just moved from El Paso and there's really only one coin shop and it's way over priced and customer service is pretty poor (even though we were both part of the same coin club)
Wow - didn't realize there were so many forumites who lived in the Baltimore/D.C. area. If you're in Rockville, try Coins of the Realm on Rockville Pike. Yes, there's Golden Eagle in Laurel, but they're mainly into bullion or generic silver and gold. You're also relatively close to Frederick, so try out the Frederick Coin Exchange. There are others, like Julian Leidman (Bonanza) & and Maryland Coin Exchange in Silver Spring, but I rarely ever go to either, so I can't speak much to them. 'dude
I haven't been to a B&M coin store in several years. Last one was Frederick to buy a 1oz gold bar. Been to Coins of the Realm, Golden Eagle and Maryland Coin Exchange. But Julian Leidman does not have a good reputation in the hobby. I stick strictly to the Baltimore Whitman shows, Heritage, Great Collections and eBay with an occasional visit to Stacks.
Thank you for the tip on Julian Leidman; I will keep that in mind. I intend to go to the big show in July, but I love browsing and learning as I go.
The Baltimore show is pretty fun. I haven't been to any other shows since I started collecting but I have been to the Baltimore show several times. Bummed that I'm going to miss out for the next year.
Thanks for all the tips on stores. Is anyone part of a club in the area or recommend a specific one? I saw that there's a token collecting club closest by, but I am trying not to distract my focus on the US Type Set.
I'm sorry you'll miss the show. Any recommendations on who to see and/or tips/tricks on how to make the most of my money?
I'm looking forward to getting back next summer just in time for the July show. I tend to stray towards the world coins when I go. I think there is a list of dealers and tables on the Whitman site so that may help you narrow things down.
