It looks like a MS61/2 and it's a common date, so I wouldn't, but maybe I'm missing something.

No Too much over spot for a raw common date

    I think PCGS's 63's are wholesale around $1320.

No help from this corner. I wouldn't buy a $20 unless it was slabbed. But that's just me.

Talking that kind of money for that coin no. To common date wise, may have been in jewelry. Not worth it to for me to pull the trigger.

tempting, but I think its not a price that is so great to get me excited. You can find slabbed ones for that price.

While I agree not to pull the trigger on this, what should we look for that makes you think it may have been in jewelry?

I'd pass...I just bought my 1914-D for 1400 and it was in a PCGS slab. Slabs all day when your talking that kind of money.

Is that a weak strike, wear or heavy cabinet friction? With the nature of the scuffs I'm saying it's AU but what do I know about gold

Coin looks fine to me. 63 or 64. No, I wouldn't buy it for $1400. $1300 or so, maybe - if I saw it in hand.

No - you could buy a nice 63 in a top tier holder for less.

I'm with all the people who talk about buying a slabbed coin, preferably PCGS.

No. Nothing special about it. Besides, you will see sub $1000 an ounce prices later this year.

And what about the rising gold prices over the last two months?

In April 2011, you could have used the same logic to say that gold would have reached $2500 by December 2011. Trends are no solid basis for an accurate prediction.
