I don't think he's hating the coin as much as hating the aftermarket flippers.

I have completely given up on buying MS/PR70 coins since if ever there was a dead end in numismatics, the MS/PR70 market is it.

I have lost more than a reasonable amount on acquiring "70" graded coins n the past due to market "hype" surrounding perfection and all the other baloney that goes with it.

IMO, anybody that pays a premium for an MS/PR70 coin is nothing short of being a fool and his money. I know I was.

I saw one which closed at $255 with Free Shipping offered.

I believe it netted the seller $8.60 on the flip provided it was shipped Priority Mail AND he only bought 1 from the mint.

    eBay Fee's = $22.95
    PayPal fee's = $7.70

Looks like eBay was the big winner on this one.

    I bought/have the 2011 5 coin silver eagle set (Paid $900.00) & it is selling for $1,600.00
I also bought the 2001 Buffalo set for $450.00 & it is selling for $900.00.

He loves when flippers lose. Flippers are winning with this coin... so he must hate this coin because of that.

I assumed I was voting that it is a commemorative, not a commerative, whatever that is.

I understand everyone's disappointment with the mediocre-at-best US Mint, but has anyone taken one of these out of the plastic coffin it's in and taken a really close look? A loupe or magnifier? I bought one, and it's really beautiful. Overpriced, but really beautiful. I'm not mad about any of it. :)

Mike, you've been had. That set ain't goin' for that price no way, no how. And you paid way too much to begin with. That set could have been had in 'frenzy times' for $400 and today, you can get it for much under that.......

Congress does not have to vote on how "I" view them though, which is what the question was ;)

Correct, and your take on the issue is well noted, but for something to be considered a bonafide US commem, it must have been approved by the US Congress.

You guys have had me thinking about this. So , its not a commemorative authorized by congress. and its not a continuation of the series. the size was manipulated to weigh out to 1/10 ounce. now ,I think it is a bullion coin. Are all modern gold coins bullion?

rzage What Goes Around Comes Around .

It's a poorly executed commemorative as it was issued to commemorate the 100th birthday of the piece .

    But....but....but...they're 70's.

And as long as people buy slabs instead of coins, he'll be fine. Doesn't matter that 2006 has the highest populations of 70DCAMs to date. Or that the most_common_grade for all those 2011's was 70; they actually outnumber 69's.

    I....hope they're DCAMs.
