Commemorative bullion. Still didn't interest me.

Seriously? You want to compare a 1916-D Coin intended for circulation and actually circulated with a 2016-W Gold Bullion coin which will NEVER see circulation?

IMO, the two are completely unrelated from a numismatic standpoint.

The gold Buffalo is not a great comparison, since none of them have a denomination of 5 cents.

Sounds like those that bought them are getting desperate to flip them. No go. When the Chinese can make them better than the mint, then it's only worth is bullion.

Don't know if you are familiar with ESNDirect, which peddles overpriced coins late night on TVG, the horse racing cable channel.

Tonight, they are selling the Mercury gold, SP70 by IGS. That's a third rate slabbing service used by them and the jerk on HSN.

$499.95. They will throw in the OGP. So nice of them. Also tossing in a 1945 MS68 Mercury (also IGS) for free.

This is not intended to be an ad. It is intended to be laughed at.

1851 items sold on eBay. Last time I checked last week the number was at about 900. The quantity for sale doesn't seem to be going down though. Only a fool would sell these for melt. It'll never happen unless gold skyrockets.

I will say though that after this experience I doubt I would ever purchase extras to sell again. I sold my extras for a fair price but there's too many idiots in the game that are bad at math or who's time is far less valuable than mine willing to undercut to the point that they're lucky to be left with any profit whatsoever. Its pure stupidity. Oh well.

Just bullion...Not a part of any Winged Liberty collection I don,t think. Some folks like this kind of stuff but not me. As I,ve said many times, I,ll buy a nice Liberty gold coin and enjoy it more than any Modern bullion coin. When I,m ready to pass it along to the next collector, I will get what I paid for it and maybe more.

Would you settle for an eye roll and a groan instead?

To what degree are we complicit in the feeding frenzy for throwing so many electrons on the topic in online discussions? Don't forget, perhaps 90% of those reading never post. This thread alone has 17x more reads than posts.

Maybe the best deal is to get a real Merc that you like and have it gold-plated, or get one that is already gold-plated. That way you get the color and the real thing.

    Yes, Yes and Yes.

Supply, Demand and Time will take care of the rest.

If anyone has one for sale I'll give you $175 for it in box and COA. :)

Why would we sell below issue price when they still bring a premium everywhere else??

    I'm not really demanding one
BUT, just in case someone DOES want to sell below issue price I'm here and listening :)

in the mean time I'll enjoy my silver Mercury dimes :)

Like most mint products I believe this one will be worth less in years to come. If you want a 70, or just want to be one of the first to own one...go for it, they're everywhere now. However if you want to buy one as an investment, I'd wait since they're almost assuredly going to cost less in the future.
New mint products are quite often expensive when first issued, then as the hype fades, so does the value. Of course there's some exceptions...the 1995 Eagle set and the Buffalo commem dollar, to name a couple. But the number of mint products that have DECLINED in value outnumber the winners dramatically.

Yep. Pretty much so, not even a close representation to the original. What a waste of gold.

I just bought & received today 2 gold mercury dimes & really like the packaging & just wondering if I should submit them for grading? (Paid $200.00 each)
I also plan on buying the gold quarter & gold half dollar.

Conversely speaking, I've yet to see a Mercury Dime which says AU 24K 1/10 oz. on the reverse.

    I should of added....
I think the coins are really nice & never sent coins in for grading & usually buy MS 69 or MS 70.
