I have a 63 1883 w/out cents nickel and it looks cleaner. If it's unc I'd say 62. I see rub on forehead hair and in hair above and behind ear. Not too familiar with these so maybe I'm seeing soft strike there. Au-58 is my guess

I'm going to go with PR63.

Also going on a limb and saying the air tights are zombucks.

You said they are not of silver content so are they copper rounds?

We have a winner. It is a date run of braided hair large cents 1839-1857. image.jpg

I see the Liberty nickel as a PR-62 in its current state, but also see it as a great conservation candidate. I think I'm going to send it off to NCS and see what happens. From the lack of hairlines and such, I expect to get back a PR-64 with a little luck. The beauty is that I'm only into it for about $90.00.

I still have a hard time believing that coin is proof when it has such a weak strike. The rims also look a bit rounded. It may be a bit PL (your pictures are really hard to interperet, no offense), but I think it is a business strike. What makes you think it is a proof?

Nice set of large cents, by the way. :)

If you know where to get PR62 Liberty Nickels for $90, I'll take a dozen. ;)

Also, is it just me or is the color on the 1840 cent (top left) a little off?

It's just my terrible photography skills and the fact that the only camera that I have access to at the moment is on my phone. It's definitely a proof though, I've been an early proof collector for thirty five years and have nearly a hundred proof Liberty nickels.

The 1840 was the victim of a bad cleaning somewhere along the way and the color is waaay off. It's on my list to upgrade whenever I find a nicer one.

I was way off then since it's a proof. I'd imagine they're quite expensive. Nice catch

Actually not as expensive as you might think, except for 1885 and 1886, as long as you're not after CAM or DCAM pieces.

Yeah, but my purchases for one coin at a time are 40-50 tops, rare occasions more. I'd probably could only ever afford an impaired proof in circulated condition (very circulated perhaps)

Even the proofs are not exempt from the weak left corn, strength in the stars, rim and denticles are a dead give away

    I stand corrected.

    What phone do you have?

iPhone 5s. One day I'll get an actual camera.

That camera is actually pretty good. Put the nickel on a black background and set the phone above on 4" of books or something. The lighting can be a bright ambient light in the room (I use a bathroom counter). This was taken with an iPad Air 2 with the same method, and that has a worse camera than the iPhone 5. image.jpeg image.jpeg

I was close at PR63 and spot on with the metal content!

Nice coins for sure. I'd like to see the other proof liberties that you have picked up over the years.

These are the only images that I have on my phone, but I'll try to get some others up in the next few days. image.jpg image.jpg
And here's one that you don't see everyday the 1881 pattern. image.jpg
Sadly I don't own this one anymore.

From the images I had it as a business strike. Had I seen in hand in sure I'd have identified it as a proof as well

All very nice. Love the orange toning!

Also who doesn't love a pattern coin.
