It's a Liberty Head nickel. Maybe 25 cents. Nice find! Did you just put it in that 2x2 flip?

I'd be tempted to go back and have a nice getting-to-know-you chat with the cashier.

 

I'm surprised (well I guess not now a days) that the cashier would just drop it into the change drawer and not question it as a counterfeit!

Nice find for pocket change. Worth about $.20. Worn and PMD. Still, a great piece to get in change.

 

Not to change the OP's subject but in my neck of the woods, cashiers are now checking $5 & $10 bills for counterfeits. I guess anything is possible these days with 3-D printers.
