This is my first post, I am already excited. I am not a specialist collector, but a huge history enthusiast. This coin seems to be silver, but not sure, and according to my google research, I can identify it as an Abbasid coin, but can't place which ruler or era. Any help? Any resources on the identification of islamic coins? Thanks

Welcome to CoinTalk Joseph! I don't collect Islamic coins, but my husband used to. He says this coin is probably from 800-1000 AD, and that the best resource for a beginner Islamic collector is Arabic Coins and how to read them by Richard Plant, published by Seaby in 1973 (there is a later edition, but the first edition is better, the second edition is ok but has problems). The World of Islam by Michael Mitchiner, published by Hawkins Press, 1977 is a fundamental resource if you decided to delve further into collecting Islamic coins.

Stephen Album is one of the leading authority on Islamic coins and has published many books. He can be reached at www.stevealbum.com

    Hope this helps!

Thanks @baybars much obliged, Are you able to identify some more occasional islamic coins in the future? There are some I have that I don't even have a clue. Are you expert in a particular coinage?
