Post Your Rare or Special or Strange TPG Slabs

I have very few slabs but this is by far the strangest I own. It's all genuine as confirmed by PCGS as a mechanical error, but they've to add the hologram to the rear of the slab [emoji23] I mean come on.. It's one of the key security features of their slabs and they forgot to do it.

I've been offered to have it replaced free of charge, I'm thinking about it as it could cause hesitation in the future if I were too sell it. Or maybe just print the email confirming the authenticity and keep it alongside.

Hello, my name is Bill and I am brand new posting but I have read the threads for months and learned a lot. I started coin collecting 3 years ago and have a nice collection. My most recent purchase really baffles me. It is a 1997 W ROBINSON $5. GOLD COIN that was graded by NGC as MS69 ULTRA CAMEO??. Is this a big rarity on such a sought after coin? Is there potential here? Any reply would be greatly appreciated. Bill

 

Hey Bill. Welcome to the jungle. I suggest you start a thread asking this question and post pics if you can. If you've been creeping for a few months you know pictures are almost a prerequisite but yeah, create a seperate thread as this is a thread meant to simply show off unusual slabs

Ultra Cameo is not the usual descriptor for an MS coin. Do post a picture.

Well it looks like I accidently stumbled upon this "NGC 8" slab. I purchased this coin (photo below) last month and a couple people questioned its authencity so it got me to start searching online for more info and came across this thread. I even called NGC today to see if they could verify it and they asked that I email them photos. I'm still going to email them photos but I'm feeling confident now that it is legit. Especially since I've seen a couple more on other sites also. I will post NGC's conclusion here once I get it.

 

The market certainly didn't love them that's why they went back to 7 and then on to 9. But I've seen a couple which are no worse (or better) than any of the rest of the label foolery.

Thanks, haven't seen the Security Rare Coins Grading before but it is in an ACG slab shell and is almost certainly one of the Encapsulation service customers that took ACG up on their encapsulation service. (Supposedly there were 14 companies but I've only traced about four of them.) For a licensing fee the customer could submit coins and ACG would encapsulate them with whatever grade the customer wanted. ACG made it clear that they would not authenticate or grade any of the submitted coins. They were ONLY providing a service of sealing them in slabs.

The second is the second generation of Millennium Coin Grading Service. The difference between the two was that on the first generation the logo was in black and white not color, and the name of the company was misspelled (Millenium). This slab style is commonly called either the "tombstone slab" or the "toilet bowl slab".
