The most popular game on eBay is order a bunch from the mint, cherry pick the 70's and maybe 69's, and dump the lower grade junk on eBay. If they can get close to what they paid for the junk, they're way ahead. Which is why, if I have to buy online in the secondary market, I buy certified.

At that point though, they still have a 7 day return window from the mint. Seems like simply shipping it back and not having to deal with a problem buyer is advantageous at least in my opinion.

Looked at another way, incessant minor variations on unimaginative designs. But each to his own. If you disagree with my opinion, just count me as not a competitor for the stuff you happen to like. :)

I've heard, if you routinely return large quantities, the mint will stop you. So, that leaves eBay for the big guys.

I was unaware of that, definitely a logical decision on their part.

Agreed. I had not seen anything from Belarus before but I will look more into what they have been doing. The Royal Australian Mint and the French mint are two that I find myself wanting more and more stuff from. Canada has some stunning gold coins I would love as well the premium is just very hard to stomach on a lot of them.

I may more it is more unimaginative than conservative. The gold coins were an idea those foreign mints had done and the mint decided to do one of their own. Even though some do maybe get a bit carried away with what some people consider gimmicky coins they are copying the success the Perth mint has had with them. At least they are trying new things and giving people more options for collector versions of silver coins.

I would also argue that even though the mint does focus on US history with commemorative, those other countries focus on it more with their substantially larger offerings celebrating their past. At this point I am pretty sure we have had more world coin issues celebrating historical events in the US than we have had from the mint.

I hadn't heard that but getting them to refund your return shipping is a pain. It can be easier to just break even selling it then going through that process. Larger sellers are probably hoping people buy other things while they pick those up, and with smaller sellers on ebay you never know if they have fully factored in their costs for what they would actually be making.

I'm glad I'm a member of a forum so I know what the price might be on these. Maybe we'll find out what the final price is after the purchase? Lol. Have they ever held off posting a price this late on anything else?

But we might not know how many coins we can buy.

That is, I think I read somewhere that the Mint reserves the right to change the Household Order Limit anytime -- even retroactively AFTER you've placed your order!

    How's that for rumor-mongering? :angelic:

What about minor variations on US crown-sized silver coins from 1878-1935 dave :pompous:

Incessant variations on decent designs. :)

They, like us, had a coin collection to pay for. Where do you think the Smithsonian coin collection came from? The Mint, creating patterns & "private" strikes, and plowing the proceeds into being the largest collector of coins in the country for half a century.

Why can't something be fairly Unique ? It is an Opinion based on what one thinks... No ONE person should be able to decide what is post-able on a forum... For crying out loud !
And anyone can have a commemorative on anything they chose.... No one person gets to make that call either. Unless they find themselves sitting on a self proclaim throne... Which... in and on the internet happens oh so much... Now pick that apart...
Good luck with your coin collecting...

Wondering if it will drop on the SPOT change or they plan to hold this price ? Monthly change ? Just a little pricey and the fact no one is chatting about it makes one think they will last a while... Sure not to sell out quickly...

I believe they generally use a weekly average

    Agree it is pricey.

But no one is chatting about it? Seriously? 12 pages in this thread alone. Many more threads on this & other forums.

And forums you might never heard of, like this:

On the chat, I mean like when the high relief came OUT.. .After start of sale date... There was a page here where everyone was posting about the purchase, if they thought it would run out ? Back ordered after an hour and so on... This is all I meant... That lasted weeks at 50K total... Then again - 50,000 coins x $1500.00 = 75M and the dime total is only 25M. Honestly believed at the time of the high relief that some were worried they may not get their order in time to receive early releases...

Gonna get 5 of them.... Tomorrow night...!
My fault on the chat, I thought they went on sale today and no comments so far.. Sorry
Watching the Flint water investigation on the news. Think that is a big deal, wait 20 years until the fracking coverups come out... And 10% of the nations water is useless... We live in a money grubbing Plutocracy and 98% don't even know it...

2 hrs 50 min till the fun begins. Silver and gold are climbing again today. I think the mint missed their extra 625k free profit on these by one week. (Assuming they sell out.)
