Apologies for the signup issues. SuperDave is certainly correct -- this is a part time endeavor with myself as the primary developer while juggling a full time job at the moment. Half the challenge was scraping the data together. We'll get everything else sorted out as quickly as possible. I very much appreciate the feedback -- it's easy to get tunnel vision when testing as a developer. I'm also trying to get my development backlog publicly available so you guys can see what's coming down the pipe. For those of you having issues signing up: If you could provide which browser you're using, which sign-in type you had issues with, and that will help me troubleshoot any of the issues you're experiencing. I've primarily tested in the latest Firefox and Chrome. Feel free to PM so I can collect the issues in one place.
I can get to page: but, 1. I can't find a link to upload any photos... 2. I can't find a link to see currently uploaded photos by others...
I just uploaded a 1926 Peace Dollar (photographed in a slab) Feedback: 1. I would have liked to upload additional 2 photos of coin to get better image angles due to lighting. 2. I was able to upload the coins only on Firefox, not able to do so on Explorer 10.
I managed to sign in. Went to look at Lincolns. Got this coin; Year & Mintmark:1910-S/S Denomination:1C But there is no picture. I also get "Subscriptions are not currently active." Went to Buffaloes. Got a 1930-S. But the enlargement only works on the top half of the coin. It will not move off the top. Next I guessed the grade, but then what? Went to Mercury dimes. Got a 1940 - beautiful coin. Same exact comments as the Buffalo. Went to Liberty halves. Found the enlargement works if I shrink the page - a lot. Still don't know what to do to get the grade.
Again, the feedback is very much appreciated. Looks like I'll be finding a new image zooming plugin. Idea being that you select a coin series, are presented a coin, select a grade (comments optional), submit it, and are taken to a results page showing your given grade, the pro grade (if available), as well as the average grade supplied by other users to date. I'll also be trying to get some automated tests setup so I can create test scenarios for each issue in this thread and confirm they're working. Nice thing is, I can run them through even older browser versions (and different screen resolutions) using something like browserstack.com or saucelabs.com, though at a cost. Hoping to tackle these issue over the weekend, if not sooner.
I appreciate the task you are undertaking, ccrook. Keep it up and I hope to see it come to fruition. BTW, the Browser I was on is Firefox 45.0.1 if that helps. Best, Steve
Ah! Found the "submit". It has been under the disclaimer at the bottom of the page. Again, it appears if you shrink the page. BTW, I am on firefox. Is there a problem with that?
Is there a link to the site? I don't see any in the OP. I think it sounds like a cool idea, but to be successful, I think: 1. It should be free. I'm not going to pay for this. Maybe make an optional donation? Small, unobtrusive ads should be able to generate a small amount of income. 2. The pictures need to be high quality (maybe set a minimum size or resolution). 3. For consistency, the pictures really should be from the same photographer, under the same conditions. Having pictures of wildly differing quality tests more of our ability to interpret photographs than it tests or improves our grading skills. Possibly have a "user submitted" area, and a professional photography area? 4. Are raw coins allowed? There isn't a grade to compare to for those. Are you limiting the coins to certain TPGs, known for their accuracy and consistency? I would argue the most benefit would come from limiting the coins to NGC/PCGS - anyone else is too inconsistent.
Tried to login with Facebook. It didn't work. I'm using chrome. It said "App Not Setup: This app is still in development mode, and you don't have access to it. Switch to a registered test user or ask an app admin for permissions." Based on the feedback/posts I've seen in this thread, it may be a good idea to work with someone who knows website development. Finish the site, get good code, and fully hatch the idea. When its done, let us know. Until then, I wish you well, hope you have success, and won't be visiting again.
I could not imagine linking Facebook activity with numismatics. That's like advertising yourself as a burglary target.
It isn't posting anything on facebook. Facebook has a common login, so that instead of registering for a hundred different sites, you can just use your facebook login to access the site. It is just more convenient. Google+ does the same thing, but nobody uses that.
Appreciate the clarification; I use social media so little - and Facebook shared logins not at all - that I wouldn't know. My fist impression, though, is that this means you've completely defeating the concept of "password security" by using the same login for multiple sites....why bother with passwords at all if someone only needs to break one of them?
The illusion of password security is a comforting blanket to wrap yourself up with. I've had my personal information hacked so many times that I don't even care anymore. And not once was it because of any personal passwords. Anything I have, the Chinese already know.
