Was at the Chicago International Coin Fair today. Almost as much gold for sale as silver. It looks like dealers are trying to reduce their extended inventory. Most of it I would only pay 2 or 3% over spot for it. Just too many odd pieces and countries with weak economies represented. I did manage to pick up a 1537 coin from Gottingen Germany. Saurmasche 3916. (My daughter's-in-law home town). I'll post some pictures tonight. Here it's in the mid-seventies, sunny and outside landscaping needs to be done; so my wife has reminded me. A gentle reference to a "honey do" list she has been keeping.

I took these quick pictures just to get them up this evening. Not the greatest coin but I blanked completely out at the last two national shows so I am happy to get this meager piece. P1010581.JPG P1010596.JPG P1010112.JPG Gottingen first minted coins in 1410 and then intermittently. This is the oldest strike I have seen and purchased so far. I would grade it at F-15, VG-20 at best. It predates my former oldest by 15 years. The "G" in the center of the piece, is now the current Coat of Arms representing the city. I have posted their traveler's patch which shows it much better.

Hiddendragon; You should have said something in advance. We could have said hello while there.

Wow, that engraving is seriously 3D. Is this medal as thick as it appears?

Hard to believe they are commemoratives. Great detail.

I just liked the way it looked. It is a regular coin still being minted in aluminium-bronze and in circulation today. I believe only 2 pieces were struck in gold. The other one in with the Central Bank of Morocco.

Did you become an owner or are you just wishing? We all do that (Wishing). We could flood this site with wishes. This thread about acquisitions, not wishes. If you don't have it, don't post it. We all like the way coins look or we wouldn't collect them.

Please READ the topic before you go around with that cocky attitude. It says Your Newest Acquisition!!! In English that means 'something you HAVE bought'.

Prussia 1/6 thaler. I didn't know what it was, just liked the design. Didn't ID it until I got home.

I commented on the other thread about the show that I was going. Who knows? We may have been sitting next to one another and not even known it.

Shah Jahan Mughal Dynasty gold Mohur. Not bad for a 300+ year old coin.

Thanks. The year would be 1628-29. Year 2 of his reign. They are fairly large gold coins, approx 11 grams. I will post the reverse below.
