When you would go to the old Connie Mack stadium all the parking was street parking. So a kid would come up and say "watch you car for a quarter mister" and you better pay up or risk a flat tire or ....

I was making $12 a week delivering papers and I was getting $6 a week in silver. I knew I should be saving them but it was too hard of a sacrifice to cut my income in half.
I'm just a bit too young but I'd like to remember turning in a gold or silver certificate for gold or silver. Better yet, observing how fast silver disappeared from circulation when the switch to clad was made. I was only 4 so my memory isn't even hazy!
I remember the times when precious metals and oil were a bargain! On top of it, shipping prices were not as absurd as today.
As a kid in the 1950's, we'd search the neighborhood for empty pop bottles... 2-cent deposit for small bottles, 5-cents for the large. Then we'd buy candy bars & baseball cards.
