Viewed by whom? You(m)? Where are the other one-time .999 or .9999 gold pieces in, for example, the Red Book? In with the commemoratives? Noooo. In with the bullion issues? Yesss.
What other .999 pieces were produced strictly for the purpose of commemorating an event? Even if they do fall under bullion in the red book, who cares? Their purpose is clear or they wouldn't be in existence. You put full value in an act of Congress. If they did pass an act to make them would it have made the series more desirable to you? No, you would've spent additional time complaining about some other issue. Do you really think somebody's going to read your post and say, "oh gee, these are going to be listed in the bullion section. Ugh, I don't want one now." ? I think you're going to be proven wrong when these go on sale. Sent from my XT1093 using Tapatalk
Aside from the ASE being probably the most popular modern coin there was a major difference with that set. 100k mintage for an ASE was a record low aside from the 1995-W.
Then hundreds of thousands more ASEs were made every year after with a different date and no changes. Yet these are pure gold, a one time deal, small denomination of a beloved design ,never to be made again at roughly the same mintage and there's little enthusiasm? Hmmm. Oh well. Im not a salesman for the mint or a psychic. If nobody wants them in the end so be it. There's no shortage of things to collect. Its good that more are being left for collectors to purchase. Everybody that wants one should be able to get one easily. With that being said... I won't be waiting for day 2 to get my order in. Sent from my XT1093 using Tapatalk
i always said beam me up scotty but the dilithium crystals have run out i will try to go the mint website just to see how the collectors enjoy this new product
I didn't start a new thread since there are already at least two major ones on this topic. Just got an email from NGC touting their special labels they will be offering to slab the 100th anniversary gold coins. Will PCGS be far behind? Or have they already thought of it?
I got an email from pcgs today... they are doing they same. http://www.pcgs.com/labels?spMailin...0&spJobID=901499675&spReportId=OTAxNDk5Njc1S0
Commems gots to be approved by congress. This ain't a commem. If it were, I'd be obligated to add it to my 'modern' collection.
I commend you for your rigid collecting style. If I followed that routine I would end up purchasing many things I didn't care for based solely on non-collector politicians opinions and missing out on things I do like. Such as these bullion coins produced strictly for the sake of commemorating the 100th anniversary of arguably the most important and iconic coin designs in US history. I thought this would be a no brainer this forum would be excited about (its just pure gold) but a few posters have been a wet blanket that has taken away some of the enjoyment. Lol. Some of the complaints are understandable. Some of it is just to argue I think. Oh,well. Diversity makes things interesting here. Sent from my XT1093 using Tapatalk
Sorry I 'dissed' you off Vess. Maybe if these were produced in silver I might have had more interest, but that too, would have required an act of congress too. You and I have seen eye to eye on most things but apparently not this. I am not trying to downplay the collectability of this piece, or dissuade others from collecting it. If you like it, you don't need my blessing........I've always been a proponent of 'collect what you like', but this coin, bullion or otherwise, is not a 'commemoratve' in the letter of definition by the US Mint. If the mint had produced this coin in 'coin silver' like the original coin was issued, I'd be all in. I'm not gonna settle for a fishscale piece of gold that I can barely see without the aid of a microscope........
Hey I'm not dissed. There's no hard feelings about it and I'm not disagreeing about the "official" commemorative license some people feel these need to be collected. Some of what the mint has done with this I can't and have no desire to defend. Ive just arrived at the point where I'm accepting what it is and anticipate that some of the worries will be set aside once product is in peoples hands. No doubt the strike up issues are completely due to the use of pure gold and the limits of the size of the planchets. Problems should have been rooted out and changed. As someone else stated, they needed to use an even number for marketing despite the fact that most of us would've rather seen exact dimensions regardless of final gold weight. Another fraction of a fraction of an oz would've went a long way. But then again, they wanted to stamp the weight on them and if they couldn't strike a neat little "1/10th" then what would it be? Maybe a simple "1/10+" wouldve been adequate to get the job done but now it's getting sloppy in the eyes of some.
Anyone have the price on them yet ? Would love to get my 10... Got a feeling they will be priced high...
I know I am in the minority on this subject, if there is a bunch of ultra conservative type (nothing wrong with that)... who are mostly retired or set with pensions, etc. THey dont see what it is like out there. I work with guys who literally sleep in their cars at the walmart parking lot, 3 of them and I was amazed to find it out, they laughed and said there is always a bunch more, 10 - 20 a night and this is in a good area ! Just feel the economy on the next go round is going to fall apart. We have a huge debt, huge BOND issues, inflated out of thin air increase in stock market and yet my electrician job still pays 20 an hour... Thus anything in Gold .999 will sky rocket, thus my interest in the HIGH relief last year. I do think they need to be priced at 175.00 because x 10 they are making 500.00 off of spot. Gimme a break on anything more. And how about a bulk discount ! Dont they read the forums.... ?
