Update on this topic. I got a "new" revised invoice from Roma. They said it was an error on their end. So, the price you see on unsold lots includes the fees. Just a small postage charge is extra. Here is what te weather is like at my end!
Actually, we live in the Ottawa Valley! This Spring, we have had colder temperatures/ snow. Where I lived in Germany as a child (Julich) close to Dutch border....we had very little snow in Winter, mostly rain. Canadian Winters are a bit like Russian winters, lots of snow/cold.
I love living in the mid-South US. Get a month of winter, maybe 1-2" (2.5-5cm) snow sometime in Jan. Been enjoying 70s (20c) for weeks...
I love the Maastricht / Aachen area. And generations ago, my family was from Bitberg area near Lux border.
Aachen/Julich/Cleves/Berg/Koln, all important Cities back in era 1000-1600AD. A lot of history. I remember as a kid, that the town had still intact fortifications/walls from that era. The Duke's (Julich) palace has magnificent 15 foot Boxwood hedges dating way back in time to 1500. But then Germany is a treasure trove of historical cities/towns/sites/cathederals/monuments/art.... Best of all, issued about 1/4 of all coinage made worldwide from the first Lydian EL Staters to present. I do not think that any gold/silver/copper ore, are mined in Germany....so must have had to purchase the metals to produce that vast amt. of coinage.

WOW, did not know that about that area's production of coinage! It is a gorgeous area in the countryside. My mother's family is originally from Schanckweiler, about 10k west of Bitberg. I've been all over the area, including the cool castle at Berg. One King Henry VIII's wives was from Cleves... I think she was a "Mare"...
I lived in Maastricht for a few weeks in the winter of 97-98. Studied at the university for an MBA mid term session. If I had the money I would live there. Gorgeous but pricey.
Very nice! Went to Maastricht SEVERAL times for trade shows and general business. I also ex-patt'ed, running a company in Cardiff, Wales area from 99 to '02. We manufactured for the consumer market as well as supplied to our sister units all over Europe and North America... so I traveled Europe, Asia, and North America a lot over 35 years...
I'm not sure there is a single right answer here since people who consign coins vary on how opposed they are to getting coins back and a return of a pile of coins to an estate representing several uninterested but antagonistic heirs could go over worse than selling them at 10 cents on the dollar. The easy answer is wholesaling off the bunch to a smaller dealer without advertising the fact. This is particularly the case for low price unsolds which will return more to the auction house than to the consignor due to minimum per lot fees. Of course the problem also could be solved if coins selling for the opening minimum were exempted from buyer's fees as a way of encouraging early bids on all lots and discouraging people waiting to see if they can get a deal on the leftovers.
Hey, is that a Rhododendron I see growing in your yard? ... man, it must be sweet livin' in the fricken banana-belt, eh panzerman?!!
