Could stuff like this crash the toned coin market?

Apparently he's created a little chemistry set/packet to tone coins. Probably won't ruin the market, unless it slips the TPG's for a long while, then gets discovered. Just makes me wonder...

Who knows. Eventually the market for toning will cool off, just as it has several times in the past. Then a bunch of stuff will get dipped again.

 

Probably not. People generally like the end product or they don't. I don't think it is really a secret that there are toned coins that got help along the way

Lol... I stared at that image for a good several minutes trying to find something wrong with it before I did a google image search against it. It was a bit lucky I found it, I think, because google image search usually doesn't do well with images of coins. I find it frequently returns a lot of images of completely different coins, unless there's a distinctive background or some kind of color pattern it can pick up on.

 

$14 for a box of crayons is a little steep.

 

I love the way he presents the product as a way that people can learn what artificial toning looks like so they can detect AT before buying a coin.

What a jerk whistle.

Usually the international shipping on even small amount of chemicals is relatively quite large. Most of the customers seem to be very happy with it. Very interesting to chemists that his other main sell is "sulfur candles" for bedbugs and slugs

Eh, if its just chemicals it will not reproduce "NT" since most people aren't patient. It will just damage a bunch more coins needlessly.

 

Most AT on coins is done with chemicals. Some react VERY QUICKLY. Just about every popular method/chemical used to PUT COLOR ON METAL is in books. "Trade Secrets and ..." is a good example. Ever hear of arsenic? Wonder how many folks got sick coloring metal in the past?

If your technique is exacting enough, you can accelerate the process nicely. The only reason AT toners which can't be told from NT toners aren't flooding the market is too few people want to put the effort forth to learn and apply the technique. It'll never be an "overnight" thing, but a few days would probably do.

I'm actually kind of surprised nobody's gone to the effort of creating "textile toners" yet.

 

I can't imagine how toning of any sort would happen without them. Just a matter of which chemicals, how they're delivered, and for how long.

Most people apparently think that albums or bags are made of some immaterial essence.

They've peppered the CoinFacts web pages with tones coins. Some even get a bump in grade for being toned.
