For me, since I collect every era.....there are so many auctions/tantalizing coins.
My sights are on Morton and Eden/St. James upcoming events. One thing, we here in Canada are at a huge disadvantage in bidding on these auctions. All bidders from Europe/UK/USA have much better exchange rates....
    Ex: 1UK Pound cost us 2.04 Can.$
    1 EUROS "" " 1.55 Can. $
    1 US$ " " 1.35 Can. $
We are behind the eight ball, before auction even starts.

The OP coin is amazing no matter how you slice it. It's one of those coins I can show to someone who isn't an ancients collector or understand their appeal and possibly will 'get it'.

Bummer on the Exchng Rate... I had a division in CA, that, back in the 90's razzed me to death that the $CAN was beating the $USD. Then, well... the $USD slowly overcame, and they quit razzing me... :D

This auction had plenty of high quality and high price coins. The one I wanted went for near estimate, but waaaaaaaaaay over my price range at 14,000 GBP. Most of the cast pieces did not have bids until the last hours. All but one sold.

I've followed many of the ancient threads on CT since joining a year ago but remain puzzled about one thing in particular: when someone "gets Clio'd" in an auction I can only guess that Clio is an ancient collector with deep pockets and likes to get in at the last moment. Is this a correct assumption? Is Clio on CT? Is the person's identity known? Thanks,

    Steve

I've never been "Clio-ed", but I believe your assumptions are correct.

Thanks, Bing. BTW, I like your Latin phrase with your avatar. Sometimes they still wear me down, but I try to get back up.

awww that's too bad, Alegandalf => I really loved that coin that you were originally aiming for ... it's a beauty!! (you should have bid more, my friend!!)

All the more incentive for me....to work my butt off this season! Can always spend 30 minutes before bedtime on sixbid....proxy bids. Hopefully the snow will melt, its going down to -13 tonite!

No offense, but the Estimate was $200 and the coin sold for $220

    o_O

... I may have aimed a bit higher?

=> right, or wrong => the CNG estimates are usually at least "doubled" ... probably closer to x 3

... oh well, I like you

It's the weekend, my friend!! (cheers)

    emoticon cheers too.gif

We've got another one from Kyzikos. Apparently they put all their creative efforts into their EL issues..

It doesn't seem like it could be much better. It's weirdly completed by the tunny dangling from the guy's hand.

Now if I could just work the cost of a Porsche into my coin budget..

I'll take the tank every time, but only because it would make me more effective at classroom management. Otherwise I'm partial to fancy coins.
