The mint has put the gold dime up on it's schedule with a HHL of 10 and a mintage of 125k. http://catalog.usmint.gov/mercury-dime-2016-centennial-gold-coin-16XB.html?cgid=product-schedule
Meh. And yeah, what gives with no fsb!? Seems like they should've made it a must to have them strike with full bands. I'm liking this less and less every time more info comes out. Next info release, and probably the death knell, will be how it's priced
Ill revise my post from the other thread a bit to include that FSB could be a value adder if they struggle with those. With that said just like the gold kennedy I believe the mintage to be to high to not end up with the same fate after the initial hype dies down. Ill likely just wait and get one on the after market
A mint that can't get the full details right on a small pure gold planchet doesn't deserve to have its output collected.
For their sake I do hope that was an oversight when they created the image, it would be rather pathetic if they couldn't get consistent FSB on these.
I can't believe they won't manage to produce them with a perfect strike. It seems the image was rendered or is not really a photo taken from an actual coin.
Pathetic, yes. But think about the potential upside. If I get lucky, my coin grades MS70 FB. Woo-hoo! Instant profit. And add 50% for a First Strike label. Worst case, I get an "ordinary" MS69 for my Mercury dime collection.
The Mint's "Specifications" say this is a Business Strike: http://catalog.usmint.gov/mercury-d...=centennial&navid=search#q=centennial&start=1 If there's a Proof version, I'd expect FSB.
Honestly there's probably not enough material there to strike it up fully to get full bands. I still want one but we're back to the fact that it should not have been a pure gold composition for the sake of the size and strike. The weight of it is meaningless. You can put 1/10th of an oz of gold into any mixture you need to acquire the proper size. Sent from my XT1093 using Tapatalk
Wait until July-August, you'll be able to get that PCGS MS70 FIRST STRIKE for a few dollars above issue price. FIRST STRIKE, what a bunch of garbage.
Hee hee. At the recent Dallas ANA, Hallenbeck's Coin Gallery bought a PCGS MS70 Gold Kennedy for "a point or two over melt" from a seller. So let it be with Winged Liberty.
