It looks like a separate ring around the rim of the coin. It looks like it may have been made into a piece of Jewelry. Like a charm for a bracelet. Just from what I see, from where I sit. I hate to go first!
Sure looks like that to me. The inside edge of the enclosure is way too even to make some sort of strike/postmint action plausible, and where it shows wear (4:00 in the image), it's a more "brassy" color than you'd expect copper to appear.
I left. They were selling everything in the house and were up and down on selling me the coin. So I took what I already made a deal on and left.
Yes, good point on that brassy comment. I don't care who long it takes, I'm waiting to see the other side of the coin.
