Why are there some State quarters with wide AM's and some with close AM's? One is very wide AM 1999 Delaware quarter. One is a medium wide 2015 Homestead Nebraska quarter and one is a close AM 2000 Maryland state quarter.
there is no such thing as a wide close am in Quarters Sheila or in any other denomination other than Lincoln cents, 1992 close am, 1998,1999,2000 wide am are the ones to look for.
Sheila, "Wide AM" and "Close AM" only applies to Lincoln cents. Note: 2015 is not a State Quarter. It is an ATB (Parks Quarter). Chris
no problem, I started seriously getting in to coin collecting because of the wide am's, I have found more than 10 98's 5 or 6 99's and only one 2000, strange I have only found 1 2000 and so many 99's because the 99 is suppose to be the rarest lol. My personal Holy Grail is the 92 close am. But dont know if i'll ever find it as im slacking off cent roll searching cause no bank seems to ever have older rolls.
Yeah my bank people hate what I do. Some of them get mad when I ask to buy a box of pennies. Lol, I really don't care because I bank with them and they take their monthly fee out of my account.
take them a few batches of brownies, I have done that in past they love to see me come in now and even ask how it went.
There was a post not to long back about dime close am and wide. I spent about 2 hrs looking at photos on the internet. Seemed to me that Die state is what affected the spacing.
Interesting. I would have never guessed a dime would look Like a wide of close. I have never thought to look. I just noticed some quarters have different spacing in the AM.
Why don't you keep track of the dates (wide or close). There were different reverse types used in this series. So far: A, B, and C. It's a good bet that's what you are seeing. Otherwise, you may have discovered a minor change in the hubs that you could name: Reverse As...s for Sheila. And before some clown does it: Bs Look on the Internet for information. Also, keep looking, don't get discouraged...that's how new discoveries SUCH AS WIDE AND CLOSE "AM" CENTS were discovered.
You are welcome. Let me know if there is a pattern to the dates you find because now I'm interested too and will look in one of my Washington Quarter books. So far, all I remember is Proofs have reverse B, Pre 1964 have A, and after that they are C's. There are some combinations in the middle. I'm sure a member will add to this before Monday.
Now, this is what I have found in my collection of quarters that I have. OK, your are now a true numismatist rather than a casual collector or hoarder Very interesting stuff. I don't know of anyone looking for "types" on these coins. Since "America" is on the obverse of these quarters, I should think that there was only one Master Hub (the basic tool with the design to make the master dies). Your research seems to imply that is not the case. The A,B, and C reverse coins I referred to earlier are the old type w/eagle. I'll look at some of my change and pehaps others will also.
