This coin features Empress Maria Theresia wife of Holy Roman Emperor Franz I of Lorraine. There is a minting flaw as coin was struck from cracked dies. Still FDC.
I am confused. in my Krause catalog all the other ones that look like your coin are made of silver. the other full 1 Souverain D'Or have later dates. the only gold 1 that looks like yours is with that 1749 date... KM#9 a 1/2 Souverain D'Or metal-.919 gold mintage- 1,676 which KM# is yours then ???
KM#23 dates 1758-1761 KM#24 dates 1759-1766 KM#25 dates 1767-1780 all these KM#'s all are size 28mm with .919 gold. your date 1749 is still a mystery to me.
why do I have a feeling someone gold plated your coin ? KM#6 has your date with coin size, but made of silver. 1/4 Ducation denomination. and you weighed it ???
OK, in Krause gold coins from 1600 to present 6th edition=KM#10 1749 Antwerpen Mint Brabant/Austrian Netherlands In Friedberg 8th edition: Double Souverain d'or 1749! Fr# 130 Amazing, one book its a Double Souverain d'or other a Souverain d'or!
Still confusing with these books, that they are not on same page. I like that ten Souverain d'or 1751 110g. 3 oz. coin....nice.
I found it only because of your KM#10 number. there is no picture with it. mintage-610,000 what grade is your coin ? in XF-$2,000 yours looks AU-UNC ? wow expensive coin.
Quite a big mintage, guess that coin was heavily used for everyday purchases. That is why it is alway in lesser grades, this was first FDC I ever saw. Even then, it was badly struck.
your collection is giving me gold fever. lol I really like researching/looking up peoples coins in my krause catalogs. I go a little crazy when I can't find them in a good way.
FDC= Fleur de Coin Italian/French/Portuguese/Spanish term for MS-66 or higher German/Austrian auctions use stempelglanz = MS-66 or higher Lots of US slabbed third party graded coins that are MS-64/65 are about UNC in Europe I have seen some hammered coins with MS-64 only get a EF in Germany/UK/France What we need are updated editions to both Krause and Friedberg!
