So I am on my trip. On my way to Casper, WY I stopped at 8 banks and rounded up $1,040 in halves. Most of it is BWR. I got 2CWR and got a 1964! My first one. I still have $500 to go. image.jpeg I found a 1983 that I have no idea what it is. The rims look silver and there are the dates 1960 and 1980 on it. Anybody know what it is?

Plated. Not clad. It's a throwback. PMD halves sold at a premium to people who don't know any better.

Dude, that's awesome with those two boxes. Were they CWR or BWR?

Legit BWR. Best boxes in a long while.

The great nickel race to a 1939-D....

I came close today. Searched one box of nickels and found a 1938-S. Third rarest.

Also found two 1950-P nickels. Hard to find them, too.

2 40% and 1 90% from a box of Loomis halves! they must not be culling the silver out.

    Nice going Lon!!!

I picked up 7 CWR nickels today. Found a 1942-P war nickel. Nice find, but I was a little bummed that it wasn't that 42-S I'm lacking...

I did it! The great race to a 1939-D is over!
EXACTLY two weeks ago I found my first 1950-D Jefferson nickel. That left me with just one more spot to fill...a 1939-D. I have searched nine boxes since then. And here it is:

    2016-03-29.jpg

I'm sure some of you will think I made this up, but I didn't. I'm just having very good luck.

It's weird though because at the beginning of the year I was thinking to myself that despite finding 3500 silver and part silver halves I had never found a Barber half. But I've found 3 already this year. And I am off to my fastest silver start ever: over 93 ounces before April 1st.

Then I found my first ever 1950-D two weeks ago. And now my first (well second, counting the one I found as a kid) 1939-D. And it's not like I haven't been looking before this. I have found over 230 war nickels. If you figure a little over one war nickel per box (close to my average, I would guess) then I've searched about 200 boxes to get a complete set of Jefferson nickels to 1960. And both keys have come in the last 12 boxes.

Well, soon I'm going to have no more time for coin collecting except for the odd afternoon here and there. So my luck will cool off. But it's already been a great year.

Keep your stories coming...I like reading about all your finds!

    Happy Hunting!

I bow out then. But I only searched 1 box since the race started.

    $5 in CWR 1c

    7 Wheaties and 2 Canadians.
An honourable mention would be a 59 D which is a hole filler.

Best Canadian was a 1991, didn't beat the record of '45 though.

Best Wheat Back of them all was a 1919 S. A teen date! I was so excited, a member previously told me my time would come, and it did! A 97 year journey across America, west coast to east coast. That was the rarest, and oldest coin i have ever found in circulation. My past record is a '42 S

I took a snip, i should upload it tomorrow.

Well my trip to Casper, WY wasn't as fruitful as I would have liked. Went through $1,700 of halves and picked up a 1964, 1967D, and a 1968. I also got a huge Chinese coin that I have no idea what it is. It's ok though, I have my return trip which will have several banks and Credit Unions to hit.

Only score today was the $4.25 in canadian change sitting in the return slot of the coin machine, got skunked on the 2 boxes of quarters I searched (did find 11 bicentennials, but no silver)

Today's hunting was slooow. $20 in CWR Cents and only found 2 non-keeper wheatbacks.

$70 in CWR Quarters didn't turn up anthing prior to 1965, though I did find a couple of newer territory coins in AU condition that will go into my book.

$5 in CWR Dimes yielded nothing of interest.

I did find my 2nd Panamamian Centesimo, a 2 cent Euro, and a 1 cent English New Penny.

    Two boxes halves: 1-40% (1969); 6-NIFC.

And you won't believe what I got in change at the local sandwich shop this morning: the illusive 1939-D nickel. It looks to be in similar shape to CTs that's pictured above. I wouldn't have even paid attention had it not been for the recent discussion on this site. Who would have guessed it would be in some change.

Bored today so went to the bank and picked up some rolls. They are all customer wrapped so hoping that's a good thing.

The only 39-D I've found was road rashed, but Dad traded me one for some Buffaloes last year that he found when he was a kid, so the one in my book is pretty nice, stairs on the back. I'm still waiting to find a nice one for my 2nd collection.

Endeavor, I get excited whenever I see those all red rolls. They make reprints nowadays, but when I was a kid, the really old rolls were red. :)
