Should I send this in to get graded? Any advice would be helpful! Thanks for reading!!! There is a strong die clash (look at the date) on the front and a weak spot on the shield and the corresponding same spot on reverse that appears to come from that strike
Can't tell anything with those images. Re post images and hit full image. That way we can see the details. Also remove from the holder before taking photos.
Your pictures are too small, and, by the filenames appear to be scans. A scan will not show whether the coin is MS or not due to the strange lighting in a scanner bed.
another try with a magnifying glass - sorry for not rotating - its too nice to take out of the holder - nicest I have ever held in person....thats not saying much of course - key for me was no discoloration or toning at all
Cleaned. And au. A 150 year old silver coin would never be blast white without having been cleaned or dipped
It is a cleaned/dipped AU coin. The surfaces have been stripped - you can tell because it is blast white.
A coin has to be worth $125+ to be worth getting graded individually. By the looks of this one I'm going to say no, as it appears to be cleaned.
A coin need not hold any monetary value to be graded, one may wish to grade a coin to preserve it because of sentiment . The condition of the coin in question had been determined it was cleaned in the first five post to this thread. I guess you were just ECHOING the knowledge of other members?
Bill I will agree to disagree as for the most part you are correct but there are certainly coins that are blast white who are over 200 years old.
No, I don't. But here are some reasons to get a coin certified that don't involve resale value: As a learning experience. Maybe a new collector who's starting to get a firm grip on grading wants to test their skills against the pros. To protect the coin. PCGS new slabs are really really good environmental protection these days. To match the rest of a set, maybe even a registry set. Who doesn't like matching holders? Etc. I don't think one should send in random pocket change for certification, but there you have it.
