Got another nice rainbow toner- a 1967 40% Silver JFK Half, in a PCGS MS 64 slab. Once again, who cares about the grade, but I really enjoy the eye appeal of the coin. It is nice to be able to diversify my collection over the past year, after selling off many of the key dates from my full Morgan set ( especially the AU 1893s, and 1889cc).
Nice ear clash....too How many knew about the ear clash? I gave a hint a few weeks ago on another post. The date also known for 36 doubled die varieties
I have seen quite a few coins that are "toned" and other than they look "nice", is there any added value or grade for them? I bought a Limited Edition Silver Proof Set several years ago and a few of the coins sported a bid of toning on the edge. Compared to my other Limited Edition Silver Proof Sets, I think they coins look better without toning. It's probably just my personal opinion, but is there added value to a toned coin?
It is just your personal opinion. Some prefer blast white coins, others love toned coins. For toning enthusiasts, those coins can command tremendous premiums. It is a matter of taste.
Yes some people will pay astronomically for a nicely toned coin. I won't pay stupid high prices. But I think i did give 50 for that kennedy of mine. Way over price guide. But that target toning can be desirable. I won't lose money on it unless I choose to.
