Having been burned by a couple of fake trade dollars in the past I would advise to be extremely cautious about any that haven't been certified.

Agreed, also op do you have any LCS's nearby? I would suggest buying a trade dollar at a shop also rather then online to get a nice in person look. The 1878 CC isn't common, only 97,000 were minted and it's a more prized date. The strike looks off and I don't like the black gunk(pass)look for a more common date if your looking for a first and certified would help.

It's fake. AU ish details but dentils absent on most of the rev. Liberty's figure is not very well excecuted.

Agreed. I'm not qualified to speak on this one. Be very, very careful with raw Trade dollars, Indian $2.50 coins, I've heard, and of course key date coins.

In any event, even if it's real, I do not find this one to be particularly eye-appealing. At best, it's been cleaned and has a dull look to it. And that's the best case scenario. Note how @ksparrow 's coin has more original looking toning to it.

Here, let me find the one I bought (raw) and sent to PCGS recently. (It did OK.)

The more I look at the coin in the OP, the more suspicious I become of it.

Agreed. Hard pass on this one.

Most of the group have given you good advice. I agree with them, leave it alone and move on. Thanks for your question and good luck!
