Chris I promised a machinist friend of mine I would relay this message take in mind this is not me his statement is are these people really that stupid. That is one reason why I cannot get him to join this site, he does not really want to deal with these kind of people I think I may join him.
Dr Phil says you seem to have a problem accepting new theories and you lash out by ridiculing. Interesting I think I'll turn this case over to my colleague Dr. Ruth. And again prove my statement incorrect point out where I'm incorrect and I will shut up until then I'm going to be here
You are incorrect because you are trying to inscribe new rules to the basic mechanics of coin striking and collecting. It's like you're beginning to learn but stuck on the basics and trying to rewrite them in your image. This is why your theories and threads are dangerous to new collectors finding them and why we have begun to call you on it. You won't listen. So since you won't listen we need to show those new collectors that this path is nonsense. It's great that you have the passion but the way you execute it is like a blind squirrel trying to find a nut and settling for a rock. Please get some books on numismatics and the minting process them come back in a few months after digesting all the info or ask questions about info in the books you don't understand. I suggest you get a membership with the ANA. It's around $40-50 for a year and you can borrow any book in their emense library for just the low cost of shipping both ways
I have a choice listen to a master machinist of 35 years who has forgotten more about being a machinist that we will probably ever learn and by the way for Dave this gentleman has two of the automated milling machines a bout 100 grand a piece and he loves them he does 50% less work with these new machines and before he even lets his apprentice machinist touch these machines he requires them at least two years of manually cutting on his old machines and Dave when he read your comment I thought he was gonna dump a load in his pants he was laughing so hard. Dilemma in one hand I have a master machinist with hands-on personal experience supplying me information and the other hand I have booked educated individual with no actual physical experience. as my friend said They haven't a clue. I think I'll go with the master machinist. And Chris I'm good to be around for a long==== time
Then you should expect that I will call you on the carpet every time you come up with a lame theory. I don't want newcomers to the hobby to get the impression that you know what you are talking about. Chris
Not rewriting any book I prove my case still you came out with all these accusations read this book do this year are incorrect and yet you still no one is has proved my theory incorrect and I'm sure the new members and the young members even some old members can see your throwing out a lot of a lot of words but no action I prove my case prove yours and from what I see there are a lot of these coins out there believe me now I'm on the hunt and Sir before I posted my theory I ran it by a master machinist who thoroughly looked at my results and gave it a 90% possibility I'll take those odds to Vegas any day, again prove me incorrect and I'll shut up
I already told you. It was struck on a very late die stage die at the end of its life... which, over hundreds of thousands of striking the metal was tired and slightly deformed. The "bowl" impression is due to the die face sinking over all those strikes. There is no name for it because it is not an error or special artifact from a strike, just what can happen to a coin being struck from such a used up die. Your friend may know how to cut metal but he doesn't know squat about coin dies and how they're prepared or what happens to the metal after so many strikings at such high pressures etc. That's like saying my friend milks cows so he knows how to make swiss cheese because of it. It doesn't work that way
Your friends don't understand the minting process. If they did they would agree with what others here have told you.
Sir what you say and is plausible but I'm going to have to go with a struck through that is the closest thing I found \V/ live long and prosper.
Sir I think my friend is quite knowledgeable and he has two of the 300 mold Masters in his shop, and Sir over the years he is trained many machinist tool makers whatever you may want to call them. \V/ live long and prosper
Dave you're absolutely right in your statement about machinist the US meant does not have a job classification as machinist they do have a job classification of toolmaker. (But) in order to be qualified for this position you must have so many years as a journeyman machinist and be qualified on the newest milling machines Dave I'm old school and do not always agree with job classification titles but evidently in my research the mint considers a die after it's completed to be considered a tool, understandable.
Sir part of your statement die shrinkage Sir under pressure and heat metal molecules will expand not contract. This statement can be verified. All I can say is check out our old spy plane the blackbird on the ground this plane leaked like a sieve, but at cruising altitude and speed all the leaks seal up due to expansion pressure and heat I've used this reference over the years to explain metal expansion under pressure and heat and you also learn something about the blackbird and why it was designed to leak on the ground but I don't want to take all the fun out of learning something new.
ps A farmer who has a cow or Cows like we had on the farm when I was real young knew how to make butter and cheese out of the cow's milk. And most cityfolk don't know how to milk a cow. They just go to the store and buy their milk and cheese
The mint will be very happy to know that dies don't wear out or deform with long term use. That will save them a lot of time.
Sir really. That's your quote another little checkable fact I know a die would shrink if it was in below freezing temperature. Sir my statements can be verified, as I'm told many times look it up. Now back to the thread I am settling on struck thru. \V/ live long and prosper
