I was looking through and scoping a few of the H10s in my collection and found a couple questionable ones that are not listed in the CPG. Im hoping @Paddy54 can help out. First one is a 1856, potential RPD the 2nd one is 1870 and it appear the date is re punched. Any thoughts or opinions welcome as always
First of all not errors but varieties.....yes in a way sort of an error,as the person did make a mistake by re punching the date, mint mark, etc. Let me check my references and I will get back to you later today.
1856 is an RPD -001, as for the 1870 I'm leaning more towards MD There are no RPD'S listed for 70. And looking at the doubling it looks like machine rather then a repunch. IMHO
Yes I see what you're saying and the 8 did pose a question to me looking at it. With not having another to compare to it's hard to make the call. The 1 could or couldn't be a repunch again I can't make a call . Would I like to say yes it is sure. The problem is when one is just about 100% sure that's when you're proven wrong. "Case in point" a 1952 D Franklin I posted with a split and also rotated mm. Was told it's all md. I would of bet the house on it being a new find rpm for that year and series.
I have seen the same effect on shield nickels as well as other coins of this time period . Again as much as I like to concur it's a RPD( that BTW the 8 looks to be) I will stick to my guns as md. Maybe by doing so it will turn out to be a new find. But up to now none are noted in this series of this date. That in its self tells me that none most probably exist.
Are these new pick ups UnCommonCents ? Can you post the obv. And rev.? That way we can see if any other devices are doubled.
No I've had them for some time. I do have some rather poor pics of them from when I first started. I'll see if I can do better
Re-imaging the 1870 now and im seeing some pretty serious doubling on other devices. Might be Longacre Doubling
Tax time. Taking a break right now. Tired There was an old time reference on half dimes, I forget who, that was very good.
Yeah my BIG brother in law is a CPA also and going through the same madness . ....I was just pulling your chair. Half dimes as for the numbers Valentine is good ,but details on rpm's is not that great. Flynn new book is a limited edition only 120 in print. Is probably the most up dated, I haven't purchased the newest ed of the cpg yet. There's also a great Web site on bust half dimes . Shows every die marriage. And goes into great details on them check it out when time allows.
See that's what I was afraid of....... because if it had been a known variety it would of been published by now. Not to say new discovery can't be found.
Heres the 56, in desperate need of better quality pics, just last night noticed the RPD, Double dipping error and variety
