I recently went through my coins and found a Barber dime along with other coins that may be very rare and worth money can anyone help me? I can provide pics
If you got a closer picture of the date and posted a picture of the reverse, I might be able to tell. The reverse is important because of the mintmark, which can make the difference between a $10 and a $10000 coin.
Unfortunately, there is no mintmark is going to make that coin worth anything remotely close to ten grand. I certainly understand your point, but care should be taken not to give even the slightest impression that a coin could be so valuable.
It appears to be a 1903, which in this condition, quite damaged, is worth about melt value. The same would go for a 1903 0. A 1903S might have some added value as it was the lowest mintage of the three, but not much added value. Sorry, but that is not a "winner" in any situation with that much damage.
With all due respect, sir; that is still multiples of accurate. Worst case the coin isn't worth much more than a buck, and best case, an 03-S in that grade would maybe... maybe be 20% of your high end estimate.
Sorry, Tommy, but a 03-S in that apparent condition, short of any unforseen and very serious reverse damage, would be worth significantly more than the other two.
I stand corrected, by you and Tommyc03. I took a quick look and rough priced it from the PCGS guide, trying to be optimistic.
Truth be told, it's somewhere between 6 and 70 in that condition. Nay that it makes it any less collectable. Nice honest coins are becoming increasingly hard to find. Please don't clean it.
You are quite correct. I didn't mean that it would be worth melt though. In good it is worth about $80.00 or so, but I also did not want the OP to think he had a gold mine in hand.
Guys, I think we're getting into the weeds a bit here. @Jayp978, this looks like a low-grade and damaged coin. The apparent damage to the last digit of the date makes it hard to tell what it is; it looks like a 3 to some of us, but I have low confidence in that. If there's an "S" mintmark on the back, and if that last digit is a 1, a 3 or a 4, the coin may be worth tens of dollars -- maybe close to a hundred -- even though it's damaged. But those dates with an S mintmark are valuable because they're scarce and hard to find, which means it's unlikely that you've found one by accident. But it's easy enough to flip the coin over and check. If the coin doesn't have a mintmark at all, it may be worth a few cents more than its silver content ($1.20 at today's prices, give or take), but not much more.
Fine post, Jeff, but when poor information is provided, it rightfully should be countered, meaning one must go a little off-track to try to get things back on. My apologies, but I'm not sure how we're getting into the weeds by attempting, as did you, to clarify and place a reasonable value range on the coin (from the little provided information).
I agree. I just saw that we were heading for a point where more than half the posts were talking about a 1903-S, and I, like you, didn't want to get the OP's hopes up inappropriately.
And after all the replies the OP still doesn't post a reverse pic or at least tell what the mint mark is if any or make any comment at all. Another one post and gone - I don't get it!
