Unbelievable!! Earlier in this thread you, or so it reads, suggest a value of a whopping $54, and now this. If you wish to blindly shoot from the hip, at least have the simple decency to make it absolutely clear that's exactly what you're doing. Even aside from the fact that the coin is now slabbed, even if completely unfamiliar with the type/date/mint, a little homework or even reading what has already been shared in this very thread regarding authenticity, would have made for a fine, and much more intelligent start. You're certainly entitled to your opinions, and if you personally wouldn't touch the coin that's fine, but this doesn't give you the right to post poor and potentially damaging information. I'm sorry, Leeroy, but spewing off like this does nothing but contribute to the excessive paranoia that's already a blight upon this hobby and board.
You said you would take 90 off of 144 which is 54. And branch mint gold is known for having poor surfaces
There's a slight difference between modern gold non-circulating coinage and circulated, 175-year-old gold Business Strikes from a mint known for poor quality.
I graded with ANACS, and I did not know they did not assign details or encapsulate holed coins, so it just got sent back saying authentic, not gradable. Authenticity was the main thing I was looking for though.
Mintmark is in the right location, although it looks to have been "pushed" to the right a little by "artist's" hole. Here's my '41-C QE for comparison... obverse strike being the weaker of the two, is indicative also. Same vertical "notch" between the rim and denticles at 9 o'clock in both. PCGS XF-45 'dude
Texture and surface issues are due to it probably being worn on a necklace or bracelet, hence the reason for hole. The coin is undoubtably genuine. One should know their gold, and particularly the series, before painting something as a fake. 'dude
Unquestionably real. But damaged. Not a coin I could live with but that's me. Plugged maybe more so. Dude yours is gorgeous!! That id love to have
If someone offered this 1841-C to me for $100 over melt I would throw the money at them and swipe the coin right out of their hands.
