I've progressed to the point in my uncirculated Franz Joseph I (1867-1916) classic Hungarian type set where I'm down to the most challenging pieces to acquire. Here are two new acquisitions of extremely scarce commemoratives: The Hungarian Millennium of 1896 To celebrate the thousand-year anniversary of the founding of Hungary, the Hungarian Mint issued nine commemorative coins in the size, composition, and style of historic Hungarian coins, five of which were denars. The coins all had legends and devices depicting Franz Joseph I (then in his 30th year of reign as King of Hungary). Denar 1896 (KE8) In the style of Istvan (Stephen) I (997-1038) Denar 1896 (KE8.1) In the style of Andras (Andrew) II (1205-1235)
here's an interesting notgeld coin i picked up. i thought the african fellow on the obverse may relate to germany's african colonial territory, but it is the fellow on the city's coat of arms, their patron saint maurice.

Most of your posts, all I can say is wow. I still haven't figured out how my purchases tie together. Apparently you've chosen to make them all be gold which must be fantastic to look at as a whole. Very cool. Jim
Its an MS-65. I still need a 40 Francs from Napoleon I, hard to find in perfect quality, considering they made lots.
