The US Mint National Park Service 100th Anniversary coins go on sale on March 24 2016.

    US Mint website:
    http://catalog.usmint.gov/product-schedule

    There's a five-dollar gold coin, a silver dollar, and a clad half-dollar.

This morning (March 10), a San Francisco local television station ran a clip showing some of the coins being struck at the local mint.

Anyone planning to purchase these or have opinions on the designs?

    :)

The designs aren't earth shattering but then again not a lot recent US Mint designs have been that great. That being said I do plan on getting 1 of each. I think the designs are nice enough to warrant a purchase. Just my opinion of course :)

I will be purchasing a silver dollar and a half dollar in both proof and uncirculated finishes. I have to keep my post-1981 modern commemorative collection complete.

I don't mind the $5 design conceptually, but I know the execution of the portraits will be lifeless. Imagine how the Frasers (either one) would have executed this design in the classic series. It would have been pretty cool, dripping with rugged, great outdoors.

The $1 reverse is a real head-scratcher. It makes absolutely no sense, obviously dictated by a congressional committee, sure to become a cornerstone of the "Modern Commemoratives, Laughing Stock Design Set" registry set.

The half dollar is kind of weird. The bar across the obverse looks like a big censorship bar, cutting off parts of the two disparate scenes. The reverse is OK, but rather sterile. One of my pet design peeves, the use of two different sans-serif fonts on the same coin, rears its ugly head here, implying that the obverse and reverse were never really meant to go together.

I'm still curious what they will do with the surcharges after the National Park Service is unable to raise matching private funds. (The NPS doesn't have a way to go about doing so.)

Well as I read through some of the responses on the US Mint offers, I thought "Kinda harsh", then I look at the designs offered up, not even one word would decribe what I saw, just......

I like the $5 gold design -- especially the Obverse. Roosevelt, Muir, and Half Dome. But I have doubts that it works on a small coin (21.6mm diameter). So I want to see it in-hand before buying.

The $1 silver Reverse is all kinds of wrong. Should've been a variation of the Reverse on the other two coins. Major deal-breaker. Not buying it. No way.

The half-dollar is nice enough. But it's a clad composition. Not my cup of tea. I might add it to a Mint order, just to be sociable (and save its shipping cost).

looks like no one is buying so the orders are going through. its going to be another coin that mint wont recover costs on.

its crazy the 3 coin set is still available. the mint is cannibalizing its own sales by offering the centennial gold coins.
